Livingston County Permit

This may sound kind of dumb, but it’s a reality that’s on my mind lately.

I recently moved back to Livingston County after living in Monroe Cty for the past 12 years or so. I’m planning to apply for my permit once I establish residency (Livingston requires 1 year), but I’m struggling to come up with potential references in the county. I know that Livingston requires 4, 3 of which must be from LC, but here’s my issue: I’m not a social person. I don’t really go out of my way to meet people, and I feel like it’s going to be a big stumbling block for me and the process. Couple that with the current political climate around guns, and I’m really not sure how I’m going to sort through this one.

Question though: does Livingston county allow police as references? I’ve seen some counties that don’t, but hadn’t seen anything ok the application instructions about it.

I had a friend with the same issue in our county.
He had so few friends that he postponed applying for years.
Finally I brought him to the local range I belonged to and he found about 15 people who offered to be references.
He hung around the range for about a year, then applied with me and 3 guys from the range as references. All went well.

Sooo, maybe you could join a local range and make some like minded friends over the year you need to wait to apply.

there are a quite a few cemetery's in the county .. just write down 4 democrats ... dead tell no lies and they vote too LOL ..

Camper, I have a friend that grew up in Avon but has lived out of state for the last fifty years. He moved back here a month ago and went to apply for his permit, they told him to wait a year but when he explained that he grew up here they gave him the paper work right then. He's really good at jawboning so I don't know if that has any bearing on getting the paper work right then. He came from a free state and has a bunch of his guns at a local gun shop just waiting.

I'm next door in Ontario.....and I thought you could either have 3 references from your county or like 5 from another county?? Is that not the case anymore of with Livingston... I will have to check. I thought I would have a problem but after thinking long and hard I was amazed how when I did approach some people I know how they thought like me!!!

I found them did it and completed the process.

ok Im pretty sure mine in ontario had some options like 3 from ontario or if not in county had to be like 4 or 5. Good luck.

I had the same issue (except moved to Livingston from Monroe), but I just asked people I knew who I thought were pro 2A or at least neutral. They weren’t necessarily friends, more like knew in passing, but it worked out fine, only 1 of 4 said no, and I had endless references to fill that one from Monroe. Good luck.

I’m basically going from Livingston to Monroe to Livingston. Been in Monroe for about 12 years and have lost touch with most people I knew in Livingston, outside of family, but family obviously can’t be used.

I moved back to Monroe or I’d help you out. There’s a club near Mt. Morris that does a modified three gun, you could try joining or one in Springwater (you need to know someone to get in, but their pistol competitions Spring to Fall are open to anyone).
