Loading TSS in a 12 guage

I'm a newbie to the site and am interested in starting to load tungsten super shot in a 12 gauge
for turkey and coyote. I have loaded pistol but not shotgun and need schooling on components.
Hulls, wads, filler, over cup wads ECT. Any advice would be appreciated.

im still confused in this .. the shot is held in a wad cup .. so there is plastic between the barrel and the shot .. but ohh dont shoot steel shot in non steel shot rated barrel .. it just makes no logical sense .. imho ..

i reload 12ga .. the only wads i buy are these .. .. just match up the wad to the shotgun hull for the load of shot ..

and i just have to ask why ?? your in NY .. turkey is not water fowl ... use lead .. and BirdShot on yote's is nuts .. u looking to get a rabies shot too lol

As far as steel shot being fired through barrels not rated for it : Steel shot does not compress like lead shot does. The barrel could split. As the shot cup leaves the shell, it travels through the forcing cone section of the barrel, then through the bore of the barrel, then through the choke section. The shot must compress in diameter to pass through each section. Since steel will not compress as easily, severely high pressures may arise behind the projectile, and the payload itself acts as an oversized monolith going through the barrel. You may notice that your choke tubes say Modified for lead shot, but Full for steel shot. The lack of compression of steel is the reason for all of this.

Nope. You have it backwards. Since steel is harder than lead, it requires less constriction to acheive the tighter pattern.

Furthermore, I really don't understand the desire to use steel shot on coyotes or turkeys. Bismuth shot is frequently used for turkeys and coyotes because it is heavier than lead and thus retains more energy downrange. Steel is lighter than lead and will lose energy faster, retaining less penetrating power downrange.

I suggest you go buy a new shotshell loading data book and read it thoroughly before you begin loading shotshells. The Lyman book has special sections for loading steel shot. Also, your loading press will need to be modified to load steel shot. The powder and shot drop bar for steel is different than the one for lead.

Yes steel needs a more open choke than lead.

Steel or tungsten, the same rules of physics apply. Tungsten is far harder than lead and will not compress the same. I'm just trying to help you not blow up your gun.
