local shop selling ny 10 lowers

I spotted these a couple of weeks ago. They have a steel rivet thru the front of the Magpul 10 rd mag. Have to destroy the mag to get it out. Bottom of mag comes off easy in case of jam. CMS is making these only for Capital gun group I was told. $199.00 for the stripped lower. Seems like a good way to go. What's the consensus here?

i saw these a while back in the Central Ave store. From what I was told, these are sold in 5 different calibers, including as a pistol lower. With the 9 inch barrel and the stock, i'm not sure how this pistol configuration would weigh in at less than 50 ozs., which would automatically make it an assault weapon under the safe act. When i asked about this, I was told it was compliant, with no explanation. I must be missing something...

Fixed mag is why it is compliant.

I believe the weight only matters if it has a detachable magazine.

Sadly no..............for what it's worth I was told that being these are being made by the manufacturer as to having the mag ''fixed'' into the receiver, it would fall on the manufacturer shoulders if any legal questions came up as opposed to any of us and our ''home made alterations''.

one nice feature was that you hit the mag release and the mag drops so you can load from the cut out in the receiver as opposed to breaking the gun open to top load. To ME. it seems like that would be quicker, ymmv.

I wouldn't recommend this as a defense gun, any other mod w/ removable mag would be much quicker, but w/ a mag limiter for 5 rds, I think this would be good for a predator hunting rifle.

I have seen them , they are very nice & he WAS putting custom (youpick) serial #s on them.
Probably still is if the are being produced again.

CMS is who is making these............Brian Olesen and CMS have some sort of exclusive deal between them, I was told by American shooter supply employee.

Back in 2002-2007, I did the FAB10 for Calif. It was a fixed box magazine. Biggest complaint was that when action was jammed, you could not drop mag to clear, and could not open up the receivcer with bolt carrier jammed. The NY10 solves that issue, and also can be loaded from the side. With the new port loaders, that is even faster. These are more time consuming to do than just a stripped lower. Have to recoup patent costs as well. It is a shame we have to go to this, but my goal is to keep us in the game and to be able to pass on tradition to our kids. If you are worried about SHTF, you can have that covered as well with a 30 second swap. I tried for 2 years to promote the NY10. Not enough interest to really get excited about. CGG contacted me and was very interested. I went with them and they have treated me fine. It is just my contribution to the fight other than just paying my NRA dues. Craig
