Long Island sporting goods store owner accused of illegally selling guns

Sounds like the guy was selling non-neutered rifles and hi cap mags. Particularly to a guy who used it to kill his kid and then himself (though how was he supposed to know that). The one thing that go me was this:

Officials say the investigation revealed evidence that Pergan allegedly illegally purchased weapons from out of state retailers or distributors and illegally sold them to individuals that are not eligible to possess assault weapons in New York State. Over the course of the investigation, detectives attempted to locate and inspect illegal weapons allegedly sold by Pergan between 2015 and 2018, which resulted in the recovery of an additional 13 illegal assault weapons.

Can you lose a NYS Firearms Dealer's liscense and still have a FFL? Anyone down in that area know more?

I thought you only needed the NY license if you also sold handguns.

Pergan had a Federal Firearms License, which permitted him to sell rifles and shotguns; however he surrendered his New York State Dealer in Firearms License in 2015, making it illegal for him to purchase, possess or sell assault weapons.

This has been an ongoing thing down here. Many people down here were in and out of his shop frequently. Couple people got approached to look at lowers and ar pattern guns that they purchased from him. It apparently all hinges on that ny dealer permit. The whole sale of assault weapons thing seems like pure conjecture. I'm not sure. I do know he had something in the neighborhood of 80+ felony charges waiting for him.
