Hello everyone hope all is well,
I am relatively new to firearms, purchased my first gun 6 months ago (just a Ruger rimfire .22). And more recently I became a shotgun owner. In the progression of my shooting hobby I would like to now have the opportunity to buy and apply for semi automatic rifle permit and also apply for a pistol permit .
My question really is , Can anyone simply break down to me what the process is as of right now. I see a lot of contradicting things online, and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. Since I reside in Islip, I believe I go to the Yaphank office . If I were to complete everything and be given my pistol permit, would that permit allow me to buy a semi auto rifle also? If anyone could point me the right way or has experience with this recently, I’d really appreciate it. Also the word around town is it could take up to 2 years to get the pistol permit, truth to this? Not ccw,but just pistol.I see state and local applications for semi auto rifle , does this mean I would need to by approved by the state also ?
