Lee Zeldin lost the room.
Last night at the Kodak Center, and last night at my house.

It was the Newsmax debate, the first one before a live audience, and about three-quarters through, the frontrunner wasn’t the frontrunner anymore.

At the Kodak Center, as he became shrill, condescending and attacking under pressure from his opponents, the crowd turned against him and the dislike became audible. When you’re getting booed in front of an audience of the faithful, well, things aren’t looking good.

And at my house, as he became shrill, condescending and attacking under pressure from his opponents, he lost my wife and and he probably lost me.

Aren't all NY Republican Governor candidates just running for name recognition only? Being NY is a super majority one party state...
We have a better chance if getting 30- round magazines legal in NY, before a Republican governor makes it into office...

I disagree with Lonsberry on this (and many, many other things). Myself and my family are voting for Zeldin for two reasons:

1.) He's the only candidate out of the 4 who will talk about NEVER pushing vax mandates in NY -- for ANY reason, period.
2.) He's the only candidate who says he will actually get rid of the NY 'Safe Act'.

Those two are more than enough reason for me. However, I don't expect any Republican to win in NY, but it doesn't help to have 4 running and have them all at Zeldin's throat.

Astorino does seem like the next best pick. I didn't know the backstabber (Pence) endorsed Zeldin. Honestly, anyone who is against vax mandates and pro 2nd amendment gets my vote. Those two things matter the most to me.

Astorino has been Anti-SAFE from the beginning. It was a big part of his campaign last time around.

He can say whatever he wants, it's what they do once they are in and we know what Pence is about so this guy lost vote.

You have to look at electability. Sure a very very conservative candidate is the choice for most of us but they would never win over any libs or moderates. A more moderate conservative who has won numerous elections in a democratic district has the best chance to win statewide. The goal is to get a fairly conservative candidate elected, not to send a statement that will only get a liberal dem nut job re-elected.

I did not fact check Astorino's claims about Zeldin basically being in bed with monkeyface Cuomo, voting for all his budgets, and not even being present for the unSAFE Act vote. That said, if true then what is the reason for having him in Albany if he's only going to RINO out on us?

I refuse to vote for a RINO.

Astorino gets my vote. And for the record, Rob won 46 counties out of 62 total in his gubernatorial run against monkeyface in 2014.

Hopefully this run puts him over the top. Here's the 2014 breakdown.

He is less pro 2A than you think. Still better than any dem running (like a Pataki or D'Amato) but his pro 2A stance is only as strong as his consultants and handlers let it be. If 2A is your only litmus, take a closer look at Astorino who actually exercises his 2A rights and actually frequents gun clubs that aren't on Long Island. Just saying.

And this is why we continue to shift further and further to the left. I can't vote for the least bad candidate. I would rather watch the entire country collapse abruptly than just slowing the path we are currently on.

I think a RINO is the only possible candidate that could possibly get elected in this state. And only if the democrats run a weak candidate like hochul.

Politics, as the saying goes, is the art of the possible. Until an asteroid wipes out NYC downstate voters will determine who wins the governor's race. And there is no way they will ever vote for a true conservative. Sad but true.
