Agreed. But at a minimum you're getting a quality receiver and can keep the other parts as spares and or parts to sell. And if you don't care about that stuff you're gtg. I really want a carbine length barrel with a rifle length gas system but can't decide if I want to build one or just swap out with my existing AR.

By ideal do you mean reliability? If so carbine length would be ideal. So what's left is back pressure and cleanliness. The rifle length will reduce and increase those 2 things respectively. Plus, I want more gas going into the my cans than back into the rifle. Helps a bit with recoil as well.

16" barrel with 12" gas tube is what I'm talking about. The ideal gas system for a 16" barrel as far as reliability goes is a carbine gas system (7" gas tube). That's why all the manufacturers make them.
