It was made with a 10 round fixed magazine. It has the tapco magazine in it in the picture. It will not accept AK pattern magazines. The first 3 years of production of the type 56 by norinco was made on Russian tooling and were a milled receiver vs the later stamped receiver. Much like the early Russian SKS it has a firing pin with a spring which prevents the slam fire condition that the later type 56 were known for

No. Tapco makes a detachable Sks magazine that works with the standard fixed magazine. No modification to the rifle.

TAPCO SKS Magazine, 5rd, Detachable, Black, US Made 922(r) Compliance Parts, *NEW*

Basically you remove the trigger guard / group on a normal Sks and then pop out the fixed magazine. Reinstall the trigger guard / group without the fixed magazine and you are ready to use the tapco detachable magazines. To put it back to fixed magazine simply reverse the process.

LWRC are awesome!

I have both. I prefer the scar. It is lighter, takes down better, and shoots just as well. I have over 22,000 rounds on my scar and i can still hit still at will out to 350 with ease......(it will go farther, but i am the weak link out past 425)

is any of those myths about them destroying optics true?
edit: for those that haven't heard what i have, apparently due to the design of the bolt a large portion of the force is deflected towards the optic and some say it's known to destroy things that aren't basically bombproof.
