How is NY state going to find these undetectable and untraceable firearms and enforce this law? My guess these are throw away guns that will be used once for some kind of criminal activity by people who are not allowed to own guns legally.

This does nothing to prohibit 3d printed guns, it is solely for "undetectable" guns (which are already regulated on a federal level). To be in compliance, Print around a 3.7oz piece of stainless steel thats a wireframe so it resembles the weapon shape. A solid block of SS could also be used if something luminescent to xray (barium) was injected into the plastic.

In a way it's kind of like "concealed is concealed" isn't it? You can still own a 3d printer and print what you want. They can't ban that technology and already the files are out there for 3d printed guns. So, in short, whatever you have, as long as you don't use them in a crime, you're good to go in a sense.
When they finally make it too expensive/impossible for traditional guns to be purchased I foresee the exponential rise of firearms enthusiasts buying high-end 3d printers.

I'm getting tired of seeing pictures of the shitty "Liberator." That plastic toy won't liberate anything. It's a crappy zip gun that melts itself a bit on every use. You can build a far better zip gun with parts and tools off the shelf of any hardware store.
We'll need better printers and polymers; wake me up when there's a 3D printer than can pop out an AR lower worth building with. For now it's a concept, and I'm not sure whether it's done more good than harm so far.
The worst thing is guys saying like, "well it only needs to shoot once." Why, cause you need a crappy .22LR zip gun for your fantasy Mafia hit job? That's nuts. No, you don't only need to shoot once.

Its getting there. There are many successful AR lower models out there and a couple pistols. The more the media pokes at this, the more attention it receives and the more people want to try it out.
Fact is the uneducated are fearful of the unknown... The boogeyman!
Fact is these uneducated politicians are the ones who raise their hand to enact laws without ever becoming educated on the issue, or the legal merits of the law proposed!
General rules apply, don't get caught breaking more than one law at time. On its own merits, getting caught with a home manufactured gun derived from "any" material shouldn't matter as its protected under Federal Law if falling under those guidelines.
TV and Movie (fantasy) guns aside... Lol, I'm still working on building a hand held rail gun!
