Madison co. Pistol Permit Amendment Change

Well I was at the LGS yesterday helping my father pick out a new pistol. Come to find out Albany sent out a letter to all the counties stating that the judges had to review all new amendments. So the new Madison county judge has interpreted this as he needs to personally review every amendment. This interpretation has eliminated the same day pistol buy and pick up. I guess the current wait time is about 4 weeks. Also they said the judge seems to wait until enough piles up on his desk and signs them all at once.

My father will be dropping off his receipt Thursday hopefully we will get some more info. It's pretty frustrating because he ran as extremely pro gun and has done the complete opposite. So other counties be on your toes hopefully you judges have a spine unlike ours.

Hopfully this crap is taken care of ! My LGS guy said he has a SAFE full of pistols waiting to be picked up,,everybody is pissed. Good Ole NY.

Ya that's what my LGS said, his safe is full. He said the worst part is he thinks the judge will sign them all at once so he will have a line out the door when that happens.

I just talked to my father. He stopped in last Thursday to the Madison Co. PP office to remove 3 pistols and add one. The word is that no more amendments the same day and the current wait time is around 2 weeks. Pretty sad were stuck with this new judge for 9.5 more years.

Update, dad got a call last night he was good to pick up his amendment today. So his timeframe was 6 days for the call 7 for pickup of the amendment. I don't know if this is the standard timeframe or he lucked out and dropped his off on the end of a wait period.

That's what it always use to be,,about a week ! The fastest I ever got one was 3 days ! its just a bunch of crap,,,use to be 3-5 days then the New permit stuff and things were going to be like Oneida County,,get it all done in one day if you could manage it,,not this bullshit ! They should of just left it and know one would know any difference,,,jeeeeez !

Another update. While my father was at the LGS picking up his gun a patron came in purchased a pistol. Before my father left the guy had came back with the amendment. So we might be back to normal. The word at the shop is the local politicians got so many complaints that they started putting pressure on the judge to uphold his promises. Well hopefully my pistol will come in soon and I'll have another update for you guys.

I didn't see it myself this is all conjecture from the LGS. I do believe there was another thread a little bit ago talking about it also. I have no doubt though that the governors office sent out such a letter. They seem to have the standard operating procedure of harassing anything pro gun in this state.

Yes all counties received them, but most county judges don't care about the kings wishes.

just an update for you folks in Madison county.. Over the last year I've bought two handguns and there was no waiting on any approval or signature from the judge.. they had stacks of presigned papers.. you can buy and pick up the same day as long as the permit office is open..

met another permit holder from here in Madison County who had his restrictions removed with just a letter to the judge..

I only know of 4 gun shops in lewis county. Always like searching out new ones, where did you buy from ?

Shops here in Lewis county are few and far between. Toying with the idea of getting an FFL myself to fill the gap.

just won an auction for a new handgun. Left the gunshop, drove strait to the sheriffs office too add it to the permit.
in and back out the door in less than 3 minutes and a $ 3. charge..

I have been using Frank's in Canastota, but I think they will be retiring sometime soon.
