Before I order one online, does anyone have a mag lock to make an ar NY legal laying around? I may be acquiring a rifle from an out of state relative and will need one to put on to new yorkerize it.

How do you do it with a tee nut?....I've only done 1 ar before.
My brother is in Nevada and is going to send me his ar. I was going to ship him a maglock to put on before sending it to my ffl or see if my ffl will let me put the maglock on there before taking posession.

Have him send the upper and the lower detached from each other (preferably in separate packages). A lower without an upper is not an assault weapon.
That way you can take it home and do what ever mods you want.

just being in FUAC land .. and being family you can just take it .. no ffl needed .. but
i would have the lower sent .. then wait a week to send the upper so u have time to mod the lower ..

A brother is not exempt from NICS/ transfer.
Gun is in Nevada, so if shipped, the lower or complete rifle has to go to a FFL. FFL will require a NICS to release lower.
Not all FFLs will deal with an AR or lower due to the BS .
If transported from out of state, it will need to be compliant before entering NY.
If transported, it must be done in accordance with all the state's laws which you will be driving g through and FOPA.
It's easier to just buy a sling shot and forget the AR.
But dont get a Pocket Rocket or sling shot with an arm brace. Andy says No!No!Nooooo!

I'm just going to order a mag lock and ship it to him directly. He can install it and ship the rifle to my ffl. Easiest way for him and I as he doesn't want to be bothered disassembling and boxing multiple things. Just figured if someone had a spare laying around i'd buy it from them as opposed to online but I guess all you gun nuts used them all up.

Contact your FFL and ask him if he'll transfer the rifle and how he wants to do it.
Hey, I recognize that, it's my rifle!Unscrew the mag release replace with tee nut. Boom! Fixed mag for less than $2.
That picture has gotten around, I've seen it at some town safe act meetings!

Thanks, I think the easiest thing will be sending him one of the buttons to replace for now. He doesn't want to be bothered doing anything really and is just trying to get rid of the rifle.
If you decide to go the t nut route .... I put it in a drill and file it down so it will fit inside a black plastic screw cap. You can then epoxy the cap shut if you live in a strict county. Put a little wax over the t nut so the epoxy doesn’t lock the threads.
