Mag pouches on belts, how many and to kangaroo or not.

For the guys that do dynamic competitions, three gun and such, and the training junkies too.
How many mag pouches do you run on your belts, is a kangaroo setup (rilfe mag inboard pistol mag outboard) too wide to be rolling around on the ground with? Do y'all think a three pouch kangaroo shingle would be too cumbersome?

When I was shooting IPSC I ran with 6 spare (18 round) mags on my belt for my pistol. When we threw in rifle stage I carried 3 spare 30 rounders.

If you are trying to save seconds the pouch method would suck. Having individual mag holders is best for time.

Well the ones I'm looking at are open top taco types with kydex.
G Code Scorpion soft shells (pistol ones can attach to the outside of the rifle ones)

Does the above look like it would be too bulky on a belt?

I'm using the scorpion pistol pouches. So far I'm very impressed with them. If I was shooting more rifle I would try kangaroo'ing them with the scorpion rifle ones. I still might grab a few anyways in case SHTF.

It's very strange. When you put a mag in there, there's so much resistance your like its going to be a pain to pull out of there. But during speed drills I didn't find it any harder to remove from other mag pouches. As far as retention with running and gunning, IDK yet. I've only been running them with the new pistol and have been trying to get familiar with it so lot of static reload drills. With that said I'm as confident as I can be without actually running and gunning with it that it will out preform my ability.

Three quad load shotgun shell holder. (12 rounds) maybe a double quad if the stage requires.

In america that translates to 116 rounds of pistol, 90 rounds of rilfe and 12-20 rounds of shotgun.

All are on my belt.

I found battle belts and vests to be cumbersome and hard to use when running and gunning.

When i shot ironman in idaho i ran a blue force gear light weigh vest. I need that as it held addition AR mags and four 33 round smg mags. Each stage required a min of 100 rounds of all 3 guns.

At the class I recently attended A guy was running the HSGI taco pouches. When we got to the run, stop, pop part he has dropping mags all over the place! Granted they could have been from the drop down thigh rig he was running. I've heard the scorpions hold on a bit tighter yet. The Blue Force Gear Ten Speed pouches worked great for me but reinserting mags is a PITA, especially when wearing gloves. There is also no kangaroo option for them.

I donot use drop leg stiff. Tried it. Not good for ehat i do.

As for the ten speed pouches.....reinsertion is not a problem. I do not re-store gear on the run. I drop and grab. I almoat never run my ten speed stuff. I always tun my above mentioned belt load out.

This works for what i do. I am not running military ops. But i run the shit putta my gear.

Yeah, I'd never do a thigh mag rig, all that weight swinging back and forth on your leg. Even if it stays put it just seems cumbersome to me.
The Ten Speed reinsertion thing is only an administrative issue. Still at one point between drills I was moving fresh mags from a cargo pocket into the now empty pouches and I just could not get the damn mags in! Ben was all

It was very frustrating.

I run Blue Force Gear triple rifle mag with retention, and a HSGI triple taco pistol molle to a HSGI battle belt. Also have a two rifle mag kangaroo pouch on my PC. That's my training rig. I've never had a mag come out during running, also run a dump pouch so I don't have to fiddle with getting mags back in.

If you're going to get a dedicated competition rig setup, I recommend a double alpha inner and outer belt along with ghost inc mag pouches, you can change the orientation and retention of them in several ways.

Its for general purpose use, training, competition of I ever get into it, use for when I become a partisan.

These are what I run for competition but I believe they would make great mag pouches for practice as well and would fit any double stack mag I think. Not tactical just practical.
