Magazine oddness

Stuck at home cause my truck is still in the shop so I started noodling around with this Lancer 308 mag. Never seen a magazine with a little secondary spring like this:

Wonder why its needed? The Pmag one doesn't have it. Frankly I'm not super keen on this particular magazine, I like the Pmag one better. The Lancer is way too bulky, the follower tilts and it isn't as smooth in its travel.

30 round mag?

I don't believe the 20 rounder has that extra doohickee.

25 rounder. The 25 round 308 mags are just a teeny bit longer than a 30 round 223 mag at least in the Pmag variety.
I don't have any 20 round Lancers to compare it too.

Perhaps it's an anti tilt device?

My guess is that it keeps the bullets from nose diving when the mag is stuffed full.

Sounds logical. But the Pmag one doesn't need it. I wonder if thats because it has a slight curve to it?

Pmag has a better design - it doesn't need it. That extra spring is a relatively expensive solution to a problem most other magazine manufacturers aren't having. Whether its the curve of the body, a crappy follower or drag inside the body of the mag, they're compensating for something.

That's one of those clip magazine's which gives you Fullauto function

Indeed the 20 round does not have it.

Lancer is top quality design. Spring must ensure best feed on 25+ 7.62 mags.

While I like the 5.56 Lancer mags fine and they are only a little more expensive than Pmags, from what I've seen I much prefer the Pmag SR25s to the Lancer L7 ones. And the big Lancers cost about twice as much as the Pmags do! Frankly I've yet to find a magazine that I prefer over the Magpuls. That said the two Lancer L7s(308) I have functioned just fine. In fact it was a Lancer I was using in the mag dump video.
