Magnifier placement

So i bought a VMX-3T and I have a Strikefire II. Up until now I've had the strikefire as far foward as possible. However the eye relief is not the best on this thing and I've found I need it as far back as possible on the rail. I've had to move the BUIS up so it sits in between the two.

I've also currently got the mount set so it flips to the right. Any advice on how to set this up properly.

Since the backup sight is by design intended as backup why not first get the optics arranged to your taste and then put the backup wherever space remains?

Or better yet get Dueck Defense offset irons. They hog less space on the rail and are ready all the time. No manual opening up the rear sight nor moving optics around to get back into the fight.

Ehh but then I'd have to get a new fore end or gas block. And I'm not really interested in spending money on the rifle its self. I'm trying to save for a bullpup. And the plan it to put a carry handle on this and the red dot + magnifier on the bullpup.

Get rid of the BUIS.

IMO BUIS are a Total waste. I buy quaility stuff. My optics/red dots have NEVER broken. Ever.

Inthe end of the day IF the main optic goes down just go home and fix/replace it. No big deal. Same thing i say about batteries. Just go to wallmart and but more.

If it is the real end of the world.....shoot the guy with good equipment and take his shit.

If you are gonna steal the dot anyway who cares? Either put the carry handle on now or just wait till you steel the dot.

None of my equipment runs BUIS. I do have folding sights in some of my guns......because they are the ONLY sights on the gun.

Back Up Iron Sights: Do You Need Them?

I agree with BG that high quality optics (eg Aimpoint) can reasonably preclude the need for BUIS. But a driving rain can cause problems with the use of any lens, even an Aimpoint. Then there is the issue of magnified optics. If you have a 3x or greater scope than offset sights can be useful in transition to sub-5o yard target distances. Personally I use 1x-6x zooms for this very reason - they revert to 1x reflex sights for short distance engagements.

I put BUIS on rifles I don't plan on putting optics on. Sight them in an put them in the safe with a pair of glasses strapped to the handguard. That way I can see the front sight if I need to grab and go.

If you are just going to the range or have your rifle under a bed for home defense, a quality sight like an aimpoint or trijicon isn't going to break or run out of batteries. Even in combat they rarely break.

With that said, if it's your only rifle and you are on the move, I'd have them on just in case since you'd have nothing else to replace the sight with. Why not if they don't weigh anything?

Perhaps with another mount, you can run them like this.

You can still keep the front buis on. In a pinch it could be used just like a shotgun bead in close quarters. Before any of these optics came out and we only had iron sights in the Marines we were taught to only use the front sight post for close quarters of 10 ft or less.
