Magnum research .22 magnum rifle

As much as I hate to say it, I’ve gotten a bit bored with black rifles and milsurps recently. I want to expand my firearm related horizons, and so I’ve been doing some research on other available options for fun plinkers. The magnum research .22 mag appeals to me because it seems ammo is fairly inexpensive, but it still has much better ballistic capabilities than a standard .22lr. I wondered if anyone here had any experience with this rifle , or could share their thoughts on .22 mag in general. Thanks all!

The 22 mag is a good cartridge but, it's range is limited to around 200 yards. I have a few 22 mag rifles (all of them Ruger) and they are accurate little buggers. If you want a really fun cartridge that the rounds are comparable in price look at the 17HMR or the 17WSM (a bit more expensive but, not too much). Those cartridges have a bit of zip and the rifles that shoot them are really great too.

Years back I was looking for a Ruger 10/22 magnum (the action of the Magnum Research rifle you are looking at) No luck so I picked up a Remington 597 in 22 mag with the laminate stock and heavy barrel ( I think these are discontinued but can still be found on Gun Broker and such) I have been very happy with this rifles accuracy and function. CZ also makes a semi-auto 22 mag and Marlin made the 922(?) also discontinued ( I came across one of them after I bought the Rem. Would have grabbed it for sure!!)

I agree with one of the above posts,,,,,,a better option would be a 17hmr or 17wsm. I have a 17hmr and thought about purchasing a 17wsm but cant find one that gets good reviews as far as accuracy and a couple of other minor things. My buddy has a Savage and glass bedded a Boyds stock which made it much more accurate,,,,thought about doing this. Took buddy out chuck hunting with his 17wsm and he was doing a good job at whacking them at quite a distance.

Thing of it is I probably wouldnt use it even if I bought it,,,,my ruger 10/22 and the 17hmr never get used,,,,this time of year I use the 204 AR in woodchuck paradise,,,,cant beat the 204 laser

I have been killing squirrels and the like since the mid 80s with my winchester 94 22mag.

once i get my three gun set together I'm going to start looking at a CZ in .17 HMR. CZ is probably some of the best rimfire guns you can get from what I've heard about them.
