Magpul Backpacker Stock for Ruger PCC

I converted from the factory for-end to an m-lok hand-guard from Midwest Industries.

I have noticed a tendency for aftermarket parts to rattle lose after a bit of shooting.

• Does the thread locker resolve the issue of the after market parts from coming loose? (Blue loctite or Purple?)

• Your feelings on the MW ML HG?

• What WL you running?

• What RDS (T2)?

• What mags (any mags cause issues)?

• What specific ammo have you run through it?

• Basically, just avoid Russian steel cased?

I ask the above because I have heard very mixed reviews from “serious” users.

I use blue lock-tite on pretty much everything I don’t need to take the gun down. The real bummer is the bolt handles (I use 2) need to be periodically checked.

I use magpul glock mags. I have no problems.

I get cases of CCI blazer brass. It functions flawlessly.

I enjoy shooting the gun. But, an AR-9 is going to be more versatile, if you don’t care about the take-down feature. It is basically a 10/22 that shoots pistol calibers. Any 10/22 fan will find it very familiar to use.

As with anything, quality magazines keep a gun running. I only use Glock magazines. Perhaps those issues you’ve read are with Ruger magazines. I don’t know but I’ve never had a problem with Glock magazines.

What RDS do you guys recommend for this system? AP T2?

What WL? ML OKW?

I’m looking for a PCC to fill a certain niche roll.

I’m contemplating between this and a AR9 variant.

As one of you noted above, an AR9 gives me more versatility & modularity.

However, as what was noted in another thread, the PC9 shoots nice & “flat”. That & the take down feature (more mobility) is definitely a plus! The felt recoil is also less (or different).

Any more thoughts to help give me more clarity? (It’s much appreciated)

What AR9 uppers do some of you recommend? (Anyone running PWS?)

@BoruchYaakov , I have my Ruger PC9 set-up pretty much just like @Kent Goldings has his. Also using Magpul PMags for a G17 never an issue. Some of the guys at my Club that shoot IDPA were have FTE but this was due to reloaded rds that were not resized the full length of the brass ( worked fine in their pistols but not the PC9. One other add-on was a buffer from Trigger Spring Kits | Custom Gun Parts & Accessories | MCARBO which when shot side by side with a friends stock PC9 there was a definite recoil reduction between the two shooting factory Winchester 115 gr bulk ammo.

I have been shooting the PC9 in AR Challenge matches ( like IDPA but with long guns ) 7 to 60 yards and have been out shooting some of the guys with their AR15's beyond 60 yards they start to get the advantage.

All in All I could not be happier with this carbine!!

Funny, you should mention that. I have looked every now & then to see if there was any classes in the Rockland/OC area. Doesn’t even seem to be in NY. Ash Hess (KAC/P&S) sparked my interest in it based on a series of articles he wrote.

I have only seen the Midwest Industries and the Ruger factory handguard ( MW also now has a full length HG ) the only thing I do see as an advantage the MW has Mlok in 8 positions and the Ruger only 4, don't know that I will ever use them?

Any aimpoint or Holosun or Primary Arms Micro Dot serves just fine. I used to have an Aimpoint Micro T1 for many years. Nowadays I run a Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot. Quality wise, it’s the same.

Do a search on here and on YouTube for Holosun and Primary Arms. You’ll see torture tests conducted that rival the aimpoints.

Ah Red Dot scope, I'm somewhat new to them on long guns, I have a Sig Romeo 5 as a starter for now. One thing that the guys I have been shooting steel with is they are going to 6MOA red dots for faster target acquisition.

Regarding the RDS: I’m partial to Aimpoint (I once had a Sig Romeo on one system and wasn’t happy). It seems an Aimpoint Micro T2 would lend itself to a better cheek-weld, than a AP PRO with factory QD mount.

Also, the smaller “footprint” of the T2 would seem more efficient with the charging handle (I could see a larger RDS causing issues with this configuration).

I’m surprised there isn’t an Ultimak style rail for the PC9!

There was a decent case study performed by Green Eyes Tactical (TX) about certain RDS & parallax issues. The T1 didn’t perform very well. (The data set & analysis was actually very well done. I also appreciated the transparency).

The T2 is known for its quality & durability. Its performance record is very well documented!

I need more than just YouTube “Torture Test” videos! Not trying to be obnoxious, honest question. Although your input is appreciated (& needed for my purposes), it’s a sample size of one and without context!

When pointed to YouTube for additional information, you then question YouTube and ask for more experiences and sources.

Just check YouTube. The torture tests speak for themselves as well as any multitude of forums that review Primary Arms and Holosuns and compare them to the quality of an Aimpoint.

I understand why I might of given you that impression.

I like to engage people and have them expound on their opinions. This helps me reevaluate my previously held notions, and as I gain more insight, I feel I am able to make more informed decisions.

It’s a process.

Opinions need context, this allows me to have a better understanding of the information being presented to me.

Based on this thread, I actually am very interested in the PC9. (The “prodding” helps me in my decision making). I went from being more inclined to the AR9, to the PC9 for this specific role.

My previously held notions on the PC9 (which didn’t come from actual experience, but from my usual sources for “gun nerd” stuff) has since changed based on the feedback.

A common notion is anything not Aimpoint, Trijocon, etc isn’t “duty” grade and shouldn’t be considered.

However, I’m always open to alternative sources.

I personally have had positive experience with Aimpoint. I haven’t had positive experience Sig Romeo.

There is available data that demonstrates certain issues with the PC9. Again, that might be a very limited data set, based on certain specific factors.
