I've always liked the looks of the Magpul 870 so when a friend had a good deal on his lightly used 870 I made it my project gun. It's a standard "Remington 870" (not an Express) that has been hydro-dipped with a dark grey carbon fiber type finish. I've never run across this before but it looks great and is durable, zero corrosion. 18.5" barrel and 6-round tube. I added the following parts:
Grey Magpul handguard and stock, with all three cheek riser inserts (normal, slightly tall, tallest). Also the tool for removal.
XS Big Dot tritium night sight Bead (so much better than Ghost Rings)
Extended Buckshot Choke (0.700) works with slugs and birdshot too
Non-MIM extractor so it won't break
Brownells Aluminum Shell Follower because it's metal
Magpul Barrel Clamp with QD socket
Magpul QD socket on buttstock because QDs rock.
This follows my experience putting together several other 870s for home defense and I think it's the best of all the options. However I have grown accustom to semi-autos and am going to stick to one platform so I don't short stroke at 3am.
Overall very clean with mild signs of use, no defects, functions 100%. Gun looks cool and always gets compliments. In fact the last intruder said it looked "badass" before he wet his pants and I blew his head off. What a great recommendation!
