Yep, it really is that simple. Best thing is, you screw up, you do it over until you get the look that you want!
Truth. I screwed up a bunch of times. Just painted over, dried with hairdryer and repainted the one section over.
I stuffed cotton balls (alot of them) under the lens caps, in the mag well, and into the action to catch any over spray. This optic has caps that cover the adjustment turrets so i didnt worry too much about taping them off. The bolt was removed, de-greased, and I taped off the portion that goes into the action. After that i wiped the whole rifle down with a rag damp with a de-greaser. Applied the base coat, brown, and let it dry. After that i used a combination of OD green, and a brighter green, to make different foliage patterns. The whole process took a couple hours, spread out over a couple nights. The brighter areas dont show up as bright in real life, the camera, or the way the light hit the rifle, makes it seem brighter.
From all the tests I've seen online, in our woods, Woodland Marpat works the best. At a distance the digital pixels blend into a haze. The pic below shows how pixels with the eye.
