Making/buying my first M-16 style AR-15

Before you read, if I said anything stupid, please understand as I am very new to guns and not the smartest guy.




Anyways, I thought about going for AR-15 route for my first rifle and I'd love to make it look like M16.

So, the SAFE ACT prevents me from getting telescoping/folding stocks, pistol grip and etc.

M-16 has fixed stock.

I think I can live with trigger guard instead of pistol grip (nytriggerguards.com)

Also, I can live with 10 round mag.




So, basically a M-16 look-alike with neutered magazine and grip. Is what I am saying plausible?

If so, how should I proceed?

Can I buy something like this?

Or, is it better to buy parts and make by myself. If so, how? Go to local gunshop?

Brownells makes a retro upper you could slap onto a lower, however, to stick with the detachable magazine, you would have to change out the gas block (FRont sight base) or hack off the bayonet lug. You would also need to replace the flash hider with a thread protector. Not challenging, but stuff that would have to be done. You could buy a stripped lower and build it up yourself.

If you must have the M16 clone you will have to have a fixed mag. I have one and while it's very much like the one I was issued it sucks breaking it open to reload and if you get a jam. Well that's a whole nother thing, normally you'd just drop the mag and clear the chamber, but with the mag fixed that's not possible and you can't just pop the rear pin because the BCG is out of battery and locks the two halves together! So you have to lock the bolt back and then while holding it in a safe manner apply pressure to the rounds in the mag and using your third hand pry the offending cartridge out, simple huh?
The Mini 14 or Thordson is sounding better and better isn't it?

AR-15 CompMag. New York Version.

That's why I use the compmag. Takes care of the loading and jamming problem.

I put a bi-pod on my fixed magazine Valkyrie and found that in addition to making it a steadier platform for better accuracy off the bench, it also facilitates the break-open reload procedure. surely not an ideal situation but it helps. FUAC!

I'll let you know some day when I have time to shoot it. I have almost zero time to do anything the last few years. My last three purchases have not even been fired yet.

All the latest reviews seem good and I believe they are on the second version after some growing pains.

What makes M-16 feature-ful? other than the pistol grip? I thought having non pistol grip M-16 would make it featureless.

Yeah but what feature does M16 have? Other than pistol grip
