Making gun raffles illegal

Based on a google search, seems like they try this every year.

I already figured out a workaround.

Don't raffle guns, simple raffle a coupon, which is issued by a retailer, for a specific gun. Then you just win the coupon, and when you go into the retailer with the coupon they give you the gun it's good for.

And if they alter the law to prohibit that, next up you just raffle off gift certificates to the FFL instead.

What a waste of time.

My FFL buddy does these and it is a good chunk of his income. This is another step in the disarmament of the state. I am sure it will be written to make 100% sure that there is NO WAY to get a firearm via any means through any gathering or by any game of chance. God I hate this place.

Our club is in the same boat. These fucking pieces of shit need to be amputated from this state. Plain and simple. 2. With the exception of bell jars, coin boards, seal cards, merchant dice boards and raffles, every winner shall be determined and every prize shall be awarded and delivered within the same calendar day as that upon which the game was played.

No alcoholic beverage or firearm, as defined in section 265.00 of the penal law, shall be offered or given as a prize in any game of chance.

10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

Same boat here. I wonder if this will apply to NYPD? The irony, I have an NRA rifle trainers certification for scout camp and high school rifle.

This is way beyond fucked up -- First, NO ONE, that IS, - NO POLICE AGENCY IN NY STATE WILL ENFORCE RAFFLE LAWS. I was screwed out of a big raffle prize, quite a while ago. Talk to city police dept. - "No, we don't enforce raffle laws." Oneida Co. Sheriff's Dept. - "No we don't enforce raffle laws." NY State Police - " No, we don't enforce raffle laws." I personally went to all of the police agencies mentioned. -- TWO REGISTERED LETTERS, to the NY state Attorney Generals office, Division of Charitable Gaming & Go Fuck Yourself, in NY City, Schneiderman Bastard in charge. - NO FUCKING RESPONSE. - Item was a $15 K motorcycle I won - Raffle by a bona-fide charitable org. I got $ 250.00 - raffle holders said "Dealer went bankrupt, so bike went back to mnfr." -- (Motorcycle was in raffle holder's possession). Bullshit - read the raffle laws, I should have received a prize of EQUAL VALUE.
NY has lots of raffle laws, - no one enforces them....just saying. It is ILLEGAL for an individual to run a raffle of any kind....and a bunch of other crap that no one in this state really gives a shit about. Only thing notable here is Cuomo's NY is FUBAR! PS: This year, our club will give out two scholarships to Camden NY high school graduates, who are attending college - for $ 1,000.00 each - this will bring our total scholarships given out over the past several years to $ 19,000,00 - MADE POSSIBLE THRU OUR GUN RAFFLE. End of RANT. I gotta go pray for lightning to strike Cuomo.

Read the bill. It only prohibits raffling "firearms" as they are defined in NYS Penal law. That includes handguns, 'assault weapons', SBSs, and SBRs, but does not include long guns that aren't classified as any of the above.

Not that I find this any better.

Camden club's raffle doesn't include firearms. Only rifles and shotguns. Just saying.

I dont see the difference between winning and buying.
Ive won 2 gun raffles at our local R&G over the last 25 years.
They were both rifles but it would be the same process with handguns.
The R&G doesnt hand out guns.
After you win, you get a piece of paper to bring to the gun shop.
You go through all the steps as if you handed them cash instead of the piece of paper.
Do other organizations just hand guns over with no FFL?
That seems unlikely in this state.
