Marlin Bolt Action 17 mach2

A local pawn shop has a stainless laminated stock Marlin in 17 mach2 for $299.

I can get it for $250 out the door.

What would you do?.

The ammo for it cost $89 A brick.
If I buy the gun I'll buy three bricks of ammo.

Any one have one, how accurate are they?

IDK if I would bother. It's been a dying caliber for awhile now. Will eventually end up the way of the 5mm at some point. I never really found the 17 to be very impressive. I can do the same with my 22mag and 30grain vmax at only 250fps slower but a much heavier bullet.

This is a mach2 or whatever, not the hmr, equivalent to the .22lr in length.

If I was about to drop over $500 for a varmint gun/plinker and some ammo...this would not be it.

It,s not a matter of price, it's a matter of nostalgia and an inheritance to one of the kids. It should be a fantastic squirrel gun. I have shot tons of squirrels with the 17hmr and it's a he'l of a killing caliber. Head shots, nothing left.

Just saw a case of new production hornady at my LGS. Made a comment about it being priced too low, should cost an ounce of gold per box of 50. My dealer laughed and said they have a ton of it.

Sounds like your not really looking for advice on what to do, but any reason to buy it.

Don’t let nostalgia speak for your wallet. I do the same thing, but my kids wanted different guns than I had and I listened to them. I’m glad I did because they use them more and enjoy them much more.

I want a 17 HM2 very badly. I intend to buy the first one I see in the wild.

I went back to pick it up and some one beat me to it by half an hour..

I'll pick up a few bricks of 17 mach2 so I have it on hand for the next one I see.

In the meantime I have a stainless Marlin 17HMR TO shoot along with about thirty-five 22s.
