What makes something a mass shooting? Is there a minimum density and weight to the bullet used, and hence the “mass”?

A gunman has opened fire at a country music bar during a student night in the city of Thousand Oaks, California, injuring at least 11 people and killing several.
The shooter stormed the Borderline Bar and Grill wearing a black trenchcoat armed with a pistol equipped with an extended magazine and smoke grenades.
Among the victims was a Ventura County deputy sheriff and a doorman - as well as a cashier and college students. The lifeless body of a suspected male victim was seen outside of the venue.
The perpetrator, dressed in all-black, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses and a mask covering the bottom part of his face, walked up to the entrance and shot the doorman before making his way into the venue.
He then opened fire on a young female cashier before throwing smoke grenades onto the dancefloor and letting off rounds into the crowd.

Well, I would say, "a good guy with a gun." duh...
Additional gun control laws obviously isn't the answer.

Ugh this sucks.
I hate these stories. Wishing a speedy recovery for those injured and condolences for any loss of life.
Interesting (and I think refreshing) that the sheriff said "at this point we don't know if it's terrorism related or not"
In a selfish way every time I see a story like this I think it further divides the gun debate and the left increasingly points to taking guns away from people as the only possible outcome so that's why I groan every time one of these stories come out because they get the raised political slant and are used for talking points before anyone knows anything.

That's a shame, and it's always annoying when they start their gun control push, but federally I don't expect anything. Although you can be damn sure that there will be more gun control coming down the road once the Democratic Senate takes control here at home.

I think I saw a definition that said any shooting where 3 or more people are shot is defined as a mass shooting event.
