Utter nonsense, and the comments show that.
There is a bit in the TANG safety (which the 88 does not have, but the 500 series do) that makes that impossible.

So this defect is specifically for the maverick 88 with its cross bolt safety, and does not apply to the 500 with tang safety.

I'd question that too. That elevator (lifter, in southern boy speak) looks worn as hell. Mine are nowhere near that springy.

I got the Mav 88 this summer. Whatever defect/issue with lifter tangs - I'm not concerned. The sole purpose of the shot gun is home defense. I'm never gonna drop it or bang it around. I'll practice with it, then keep in my home. And hope I never have to ever use the gun for it's main purpose.

I have had a Maverick 88 for so long, I can't remember when I bought the thing. Mine has to be 20 years old
It's my Duck/Goose gun, my trap and skeet gun, it has never jammed, it has never misfired or failed to feed/Failed to fire and i have never dropped the damn thing.
It's a great gun, I like alot. It's cheap and reliable
