Some Chicago families could start collecting a $1,000 check every month with no strings attached. That's the new proposal from a task force created by Mayor Emanuel.

The idea is to break the cycle of poverty. The pilot program would give 1,000 struggling Chicagoans $1,000 a month.

That is how many Alaskans survive. The problem is that it provides little incentive to promote SMB and personal wroth.
There is always going to be prople who need help lie people disable or sick, but how we can make something better if we also do not teach people how to help themselves.
Even major non-profits are changing their approach after decades of failed policy. The other day I was reading about a non-profit that helps 3rd world communities get pumps to pump water, lease goats and chickens, training and education...
They have realized they get better results in africa teaching those people how to prosper themselves vs simply giving them clothing, rice and money.
Pretty much like many of the early major missions did.
I bet it is a lot easier to prosper like that in Africa that it is in Chicago, specially because those states with absurd taxes, labor laws and regulations are designed to destroy the middle class. The very same class of taxpayers and community oriented people who makes all other things possible.
And this is why our version of Socialism doesnt work in the long term. Same thing in NYS, CA, etc...
The middle working class and American Dream are under siege.
