On Saturday September 17th I attended my second class with Chris Fry at MDTS. The class was Practical Pistol 2. Obviously, one would be expected to have a solid grasp of the basic fundamentals of handgun shooting along with all of the basic safety rules prior to attending this class. The class covered a lot of drawing from concealment, shooting on the move, drawing and shooting in close proximity to an attacker, fighting mindset, and many other aspects. Needless to say, it was an awesome day and the class exceeded my expectations.
What really stuck with me the most was the way Chris approached his instruction. Chris is someone that is highly trained in many different aspects of self-defense, and he is an armed citizen just like me or anyone else. I have taken formal training classes from several different instructors, all of them have been great in their own way, I have nothing bad to say about any of them, and I would highly recommend them to everyone. But what I really liked about this class is that it focused more on the Practical as compared to the Tactical.
As a non Le /Mil armed citizen we have to approach the defensive use of deadly physical force in a different manner. Chris does a great job of teaching this and instilling the mindset that is needed to be prepared for such an unfortunate situation.
I would highly recommend any of Chris's classes for those of you out there seeking formal training. As I have stated many times on this forum already, I really want to urge everyone to get out there and get formal training so we are all smarter and wiser should we ever find ourselves in an unfortunate situation.
