Measures to ban slaughterhouses, fur sales in Denver will be on 2024 ballot

New measures that could ban slaughterhouses and the sale of fur will be on Denver’s 2024 ballot.

The City and County of Denver confirmed that as of Nov. 27, the citizen-led initiatives received enough signatures to make it onto the 2024 ballot.

Banning slaughterhouses​

The ballot measure is known as the Prohibition of Slaughterhouses.
Pro-Animal Future defines slaughterhouses as, “a facility where animals are brought for the purpose of being killed to be processed into food and other products. These facilities are designed to expedite the slaughter of animals in mass.”

According to the proposed ordinance, slaughterhouses are a nuisance to those living near them due to their odors, disagreeable nature, and unsightly industry. Pro-Animal Future also claims that employment at slaughterhouses comes with high rates of workplace injuries.

The proposed ordinance states, “Eliminating slaughterhouses in Denver will promote community awareness of animal welfare, bolster the City’s stance against animal cruelty, and, in turn, foster a more humane environment in Denver.”

Banning fur sales​

Another measure proposed by Pro-Animal Future would ban anyone from manufacturing, displaying, trading or selling fur products in Denver.

Slaughter houses are a lot of jobs up on the high plains outside Denver.... Should have some interesting unintended consequences lol


However, I am in favor of banning fur farms. In general I oppose them and think they are cruel to animals.

The rest of the state was ruined by Texans. And legalizing weed. The vast influx of trash swarming into Colorado was the reason we left. Too many people, too much annoyance.

My eldest daughter went to school in Montreal for a few years.

She told me you could tell the native Montreal women from the rest because in winter (-40 C &F ) the Canadian women all had beautiful fur coats, or at least very stylish fur trimmed coats.

We don't want those sort of people living near us, and uugh, I spent just over a Million on this house and have no intentions on putting up with the smells from that Plant, I don't care how long they've been here or if they were before me, it's gross, and if I wanted to smell stink I would have stayed in L.A.

I care not for "Fur Farms" however banning anything is not the answer.

sarcastic, except for actually "banning" anything; that absolute term disallows for the other sides Rights, and gets into more government regulation, control, and power over things THEY do not produce or profession.

The arrogant transplants pull that sort of shit all the time: Move up from the City, overpay for some property and build a House near a Farm then bitch because of the smells, and invariably they don't want people they consider inferior or socially below their station in life anywhere near them.
