Custom has it that U.S. attorneys stand ready to depart when a new president is inaugurated. Bill Clinton, taking office in 1993, demanded—and received—resignation letters from all 93 federal prosecutors. New brooms, as they say, sweep clean. Bharara, if not a new broom, is certainly a big one, and he’s been sweeping clean since President Obama—on the recommendation of Senator Charles Schumer—appointed him U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in 2009. That’s one of the most challenging prosecutorial posts in the federal government, albeit one that has generally focused on Wall Street and the financial markets. I am shocked I'm saying this, preet even though he is from the downstate progressives he at least appears to have an honest level of ethical integrity and is willing to go after corruption.

I think he is the best we can ever realistically hope for.

Hopefully trump keeps him. At least we know who he is and he's not part of the problem.

Jury is out on Preet as far as I'm concerned. Sure he took down 2 of 3 men in a room but there has got to be so much on monkey face I can't believe he hasn't been charged yet. Preet's close connection to schmucky always keeps me skeptical.

I have the same skepticism. I think the election, and the possibility of Hillary being Queen, may have slowed him down a bit. But, he took a big risk going after Silver for that same reason. He must have felt that Shelly was so well known for his abuses, and so hated by the abused, that his actions against Silver would be excused.

Monkey face is obviously a Clinton friend. Preet couldn't dare go after him. But now? IMO, if Preet wants to show our new President that he's part of the swamp draining crew, he should move quickly to put Cuomo's head on a pike.

I agree, he was slowed down by the hillary machine but now that that isnt going to happen it should be full steam ahead!!!

As much as I appreciated Bharara's arrest of Silver and Skelos, and understand the difficulty in capturing Cuomo, I believe that he needs to be replaced for ideological reasons. Clearly, the SAFE Act enactment is a RICO violation. But Bharara did not pursue such an investigation, which would have included other NYS criminals including Schneiderman and D'Amico. There can be no doubt that Bharara could have cut a deal with Silver and Skelos to bring up Cuomo and Schneiderman on racketeering charges (allowing S&S to claim they were bullied), but he did not. Bharara also could have filed a lawsuit for violation of civil rights, armed with Heller- he did not.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. But if a better friend comes along, my enemy is again my enemy. I hope that a Trump appointee would bring a different approach to enforcement- enforcement of not just corruption laws, but, more important, the Constitution.
