Micro Roni kit legality?

over the last few weeks I’ve seen a number of upstate dealers advertise these kits for sale on social media. For those who may be unfamiliar, these are pistol chassis that accept most any Glock pistol and feature a folding brace. I know these have been out for a number of years now, but I had always assumed they were not kosher here. Was I wrong? Certainly wouldn’t mind owning one if they are good to go.

Once you installed one of these kits on, your pistol now has a second handgrip. That’s a fact and that renders one of these things an assault weapon according to ny laws.

What can be disputable however and doesn’t really matter because of the hand grip is that it can also be labeled as a barrel shroud that completely encircles the barrel.

Unfortunately, Willjr75 appears to be correct. The newer CAA MCK is apparently permissible under Federal law due to its classification as a "grip" and "stabilizer" but it looks like it would be covered under the NY definition of assault rifle. Can anyone provide a good argument for it being legal? By itself its nothing. Has anyone been given any guidance on this by their local law enforcement? Is anyone using one at a public range without issues?

That is not possible because local law enforcement has no real legal guidance due to the intentionally vague statute.

I totally agree with you Phaser. That's why I think different departments will take different actions. I was hoping to hear about a positive interaction with an officer at a range regarding a Roni grip. Not going to happen - is it?
