Mini 14 frustration

I've had an early Mini 14 for years (181 series?) and it improved greatly with the addition of a barrel strut, I also replace the front sight with a post type that's thinner then changed out the gas block orifice and added a bipod now I can actually hit a target at 200yds! It'll never be a tack driver but it's a fun and reliable gun and now decently accurate, I have thought about sending it out and have the action bedded but....

Came here to mention this. I bought one of these and it improved my groups quite noticeably. I'm still not going to win any competitions, but I bought my Mini-14 because I wanted something useful and reliable, not because I wanted a tack driver.

I still want one. NY ok semi and looks better than an SKS, to my eyes.

If you have an older series mini with the thinner barrel, you may see an improvement. For the newer series with the thicker barrel, not so much. It is, however a really good heat sink, so that is worth something. Plus it looks cool.
The new gas bushings will lessen the wear and tear on the receiver and other parts of the gun. It will also reduce the distance it sends brass. Not sure on accuracy.

Absolutely. Hey I hate to send you elsewhere but Perfect Union.com has a section devoted to the Mini. Some pretty hardcore fans over there with GREAT advice and success. Older guys with lotsa love for old school wood and steel rifles. Sand dog and Co Steve are the best sources for info and do a search first, read a lot before posting questions.
Keep in mind that the Minis will give 2-3 inch groups at best and the new ones are more accurate than the older pencil barrels.

Also, depending on the age of your Mini, iirc, the twist rate has changed. Mine's a 196 series from 2001,with a 1 in 9 twist rate. My understanding is that it is more accurate with heavier bullets. The Accu-strut helps with the whippy pencil barrel.

Youre also comparing 2 different era guns. Id still pick the sks.
