Well happy 4th everyone.
I spent the day with an ar and a mini-14.
I took my Weaver vx3 1-3 off of the mini becuse yes...I had never shot them.
I set out with 55 grain Hornaday Frontier, Federal 5.56, and Winchester white box 5.56.
The irons were perfect. About 2" at 50 yards in unsupported prone. With the Fed and horn.
The winchester had a wildly different poi. Back in the range back for now.
Then i got my Rock JR out and decided to check the re-zero on the Warne qd rings at 50 yards. I shot off ten to warm the barrel up. Then the first serious 5 shot group was about 1.5 high and to the left. One correction and...

This was the Hornday. I have 16" ars what won't do that off of a rock jr. (No rear support.)
The weaver v3 tracked perfectly. The mini saw very little to shift when the barrel got hot, and I was pretty happy. So easily and fun. This is a different animal than the 80s minis.
I had a pro-mag nickel mag and a cdnn sports mag. Both performed flawlessly with a full ten rounds. Zero issues. Held the bolt open every time. ( I did bring oem ruger jic.)
The ar...didn't shoot as well. This is the second ar in the row I sucked with. I'm going to guess the Thordsen and I don't jive super well. I think I'm going to grab a led sled or a stinger and see if I can take ME out of the equation. A Wilson and an FN barrel with swfa and weaver scopes, and adm and larue mounts should not be consistently out shot by a mini-14....
In the way home I hit a bump and both rifles went flying out of my car and into an open sewer pipe....RIP.
