Dumb question but I can't find anything right off, and with the new bs laws looking for the "legal" answer for someone.
What age does Fuhrer Hochul allow?

I told her it's none of anyone else's business but she's worried if the wrong person heard about it. She's a worrier for sure. Told her it may be different for rimfire.

Pretty hilarious since that allows crazy Uncle Bill with the tall hunting tales and who carries his flask with him into the woods to instruct the kid in shooting, but not an off-duty military or police firearms instructor or coach, an NRA instructor, competitive shooter, or literally any number of people who would be far more qualified than some random dude the kid's parents knows with a hunting license.

under 16 i think is .. with out special things .. like you need a hunting license and some other BS ..

or your kid is in possession of a firearm ..

you and your 10 year old is breaking the law for shooting in your back yard home range ..

im still trying to find a age listed in the US Constitution and the NYS Civil Rights law ..

i do not see a age listed ..

Meanwhile, over the southern border in PA, children as young as 7 can hunt deer and turkey as a mentored youth hunter, then move to a regular junior hunter at 12. I realize you may not have had hunting in mind per se, but hunting involves knowing how to shoot and the necessary instruction in firearms…

Maybe join up with a rod and gun club in one of the nearby PA counties?

Me sitting on my dads knee shooting a Stevens crack shot and I'm wearing only a diaper at camp, should be ok; so I would say at the age the trigger can be pulled. Dad was holding the rifle.

Wear whatever absorbent pants you like. What happens at camp should stay at camp.

I just ran across this. It must be because of living in the new age New York that you feel the need to ask this question. When my kids were small I decided, me, their father. The thought that the state may have something to say about it never occurred to me. We truly are fucked.

If it were me I'd make the decision, just as I've done already. None of the state's fuckin business.
But, a young mother I know was asking, and I didn't have the correct legal answer. Told her just to keep it between her and her son. Don't talk about it to others, and make sure her son knows the same.
I can't believe we're at this point.

NYS Hunter Safety class

Students must be 11 years or older to take this course (Note: In New York State the minimum age to hunt is 12-years old).

so any kid shooting with mom or dad or with out them and is under 11 yrs old in the back lawn

S 265.05 Unlawful possession of weapons by persons under sixteen.
It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of sixteen to
possess any air-gun, spring-gun or other instrument or weapon in which
the propelling force is a spring or air, or any gun or any instrument or
weapon in or upon which any loaded or blank cartridges may be used, or
any loaded or blank cartridges or ammunition therefor, or any dangerous
knife; provided that the possession of rifle or shotgun or ammunition
therefor by the holder of a hunting license or permit issued pursuant to
article eleven of the environmental conservation law and used in
accordance with said law shall not be governed by this section.
A person who violates the provisions of this section shall be
adjudged a juvenile delinquent.
