ROCHESTER, Minn. – A man who torched a Minneapolis pawn shop during the George Floyd riots, killing a man, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.

According to court documents, on May 28, 2020, Montez Terriel Lee, 26, along with others, broke into the Max It Pawn Shop on East Lake Street in Minneapolis. Surveillance video footage showed Lee pouring a fire accelerant around the pawn shop and lighting the accelerant on fire. The fire destroyed the building. A second video showed Lee standing in front of the burning pawn shop and Lee could be heard saying, “[expletive] this place. We’re gonna burn this [expletive] down.”

The system has gone "woke " I posted a thread on the laws (NY City ) that will be discarded in favor of " racial justice. ". You are just starting to find out your values and even your life are not worth much going forward. After the Supreme court decided Citizens United, special interest dark money flooded political campaigns. District Attorney races, traditionally non-partisan, non-political, were not spared from this onslaught. Eighteen months ago we wrote about an example of this problem. Special interest groups, funded by George Soros, pumped millions of dollars into district attorney races across the county. Their mission was to use Soros’s wealth to radically reshape the criminal justice system.

Rather than engaging the electorate by having an open debate about the criminal justice system, these special interest groups sought to circumvent the entire democratic process by electing candidates who refused to enforce laws passed by the people and their representatives. An odd approach for the man who funds the so-called “Open Society Foundations,” an organization whose stated mission is to “to build vibrant and inclusive democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens.”

The results of these efforts have been mixed. California voters, for the most part, rejected past attempts to buy their elections. Certain DA elections on the East Coast did not fare as well. In Monroe County, New York, the district attorney beat back the $800,000 Soros dropped against her and cruised to re-election and then jokingly thanked Soros for her victory.

The infusion of dark money in these races, usually in the final months before a primary or general election, makes a huge impact. District attorney elections are typically minimally funded, local races. The last-minute spending by these PACs leaves opposing candidates with scant time to raise a corresponding amount of cash to respond.

Well, in Philadelphia, homicides have exploded from a low of 248 murders in 2014 to 562 killings in 2020, a new all-time record. The victims of this violence are almost entirely people of color living in the poorest sections of the city. In 2020, more than 85% of the homicide victims in Philadelphia were black. Progressive prosecutor Larry Krasner is overseeing policies and programs that are corresponding with the deaths of hundreds of people of color every year, from children to young men to the elderly. All evidence suggests Krasner does not care, or he would change his policies.

ARE THEY FISCAL CONSERVATIVES? The cost of solving a homicide and convicting a guilty party is enormous. Estimates of the all-in costs of investigation, trial and incarceration range from $8 million to $17 million per case.
