Monroe County wait time just to amend your permit?!

I used to be able to show up at the county clerks office with my receipt and take a new pistol home same day. When the hell did that change? Now I have to MAIL a form in and wait weeks to get an amended permit back in the MAIL just to take a new one home?! What the hell is that?? I guess waiting over a month to get an appointment at the clerks office is worse.
I can't wait to move out of NY

It was supposed to be because of the scary dangerous covid-19 virus. They took advantage of the plandemic and used it to their advantage, now they use that as an excuse and just kept with it because it's just another deterrent.

You still have an option to book an appointment, but they've been booked out for like a month for weeks. Exactly what they want, not to be bothered by people that just want to pick up a pistol and get home or back to work.

If your schedule is flexible you can take advantage of people who cancel their appointments. I've been able to snag an appointment as quickly as the next day by periodically checking the appointment website throughout the day. There's at least several cancellations a week.

What I would ask is if this is permanent or if it it is just because they were slammed with people trying to apply prior to the 9/1 training requirements? I have no idea since I’m not in Monroe. keep in mind the permit offices had people camping out overnight to apply in many cases and they were expanding their hours to meet the demand. This might be why.

Also this is what I do all the time for Erie county because I’m not taking off work to get my 7th or 8th pistol added to my permit.

Sounds like what happens with a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT.


On the other hand, I go to a store, purchase and bring home right away any pistol I want, THEN go and amend my permit as my schedule permits.

Albany county has always been a minimum of 3 weeks and 2 trips to the clerks office

Yeah...the perks of living in NY.
I could keep checking for a cancellation but I'm mailing the form today or tomorrow. If I keep waiting for an opening at the office it would just delay the whole process even more.

Good to hear. You shouldn’t even need to do this if you have a permit and a background check done at an ffl though.

That crap started during the covid shenanigans and the clerk just hasn't gone back to business as usual. The last couple pistols I added I just sauntered into the office and said im here for my 2:30 yada yada and they didn't ask for any confirmation of anytning. Just did the paperwork and I was done. Figured it was worth a shot and it worked. Lol
