Depending on the situation, I would think it unlikely that bystanders were hit by the CCW holders, assuming they were in the stands and shooting downward toward the perps (unless by ricochet). Obviously this may change depending on the situation, and where and how people were seated.

Sadly, the article did not state if the perps were injured in the firefight. You would think at least ONE of the CCW holders (or the Texan equivalent) would have enough skill to hit a standing target up to 50 yards away.

You can have all the skill in the world when it comes to shooting and still miss when you are trying to hit a person, who is shooting at you, and your pucker factor kicks in. There is somewhat more than just a wee bit difference from shooting at paper targets.

Two perps. How many CCW firing back? Surely one of them wasn't a direct target of the perps and could take a moment to fire with accuracy. I've hit a water-filled gallon milk jug at 100 yards with my 38 revolver. A human is considerably larger than a milk jug.
I've knocked down 5 bowling pins at 30 feet in less than 5 seconds with my .45. A human is considerably larger than a bowling pin, and I would believe not all of the CCWs were at 50 yards.

There's a lot to be said about training with your preferred choice of CCW. When pucker factor kicks in, muscle memory pulls you out. Wait a minute, that didn't come out right...
