You got to hand it to Tom King. Totally ineffective at protecting gun rights of NYSRPA members, but a master at soaking NYSRPA members of every dollar for his own personal gain. We’re not talking about his near $100,000 salary for delivering nothing worthwhile to those hapless members who pay it. Or his insider deals that channel NYSRPA money to benefit family, friends and loyal board members who vote the way he wants. Recent examples: hiring his daughter’s company on a no bid contract to print Bullet magazine; lending nearly $12,000 of NYSRPA funds to his best friend and board member Brian Olesen who has a reported criminal record and lost his FFL after an ATF investigation; recommending the hiring ofanother board member on a $275/hour contract with an approx. $42,000 non-use penalty. The Latest Tom King Con Job
The latest King scheme is to convince the Board to approve what will likely be a $200,000 expenditure to buy a building the real purpose of which is to lesson his commute from home to the office. You read this right. The building King wants to buy is located at 713 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush which is a 2 minute drive from his home at 4 Mulberry Drive. King failed to disclose this key fact in his request and recommendation for approval . That shows obvious consciousness of guilt on his behalf because King probably knew the few Board members with brains would see this request for what it really is: another dishonest act of self- dealing intended to take care of Tom King at the expense of NYSRPA members. And not only was this key fact withheld, but King mispresented and witheld other aspects of his recommendation including the condition of the building and the neighborhood.
We discovered this latest act of Tom King’s self-dealing and dishonesty by pure luck, but how many more things has be done to advance his personal and family interests that we don’t know about? Unluckily for King, one of the seller’s family asked an active SCOPE member about NYSRPA, and that member had an off the record call with two insiders who have a conscience and sense of obligation to NYSRPA members rather than abig, dumb, dishonest clown with initials “THK”. Here’s what they found after an on site investigation:
Tom King was untruthful when he described to the Board the building’s condition and claimed that it only needed carpeting and paint. FACT: The building has long been vacant and has obvious exterior deterioration in several areas. A garage door has a hole boarded up, missing soffits and gutters and rotted wood are apparent in several places. Multiple exterior electrical wires have been improperly installed and are obvious building code violations. There is no freestanding sign which is a major expense to install and may require a zoning change. The exterior HVAC equipment is old and nearing the end of its life. The roof and parking surface should be investigated to determine its remaining life. Graffitti is on an exterior wall and other graffitti has been painted over but is still visible. (And this is only what they could see from the outside!) WRITE US FOR PHOTOS FOR PROOF! We will send you pics of the building, it’s surround and even a snap shot of King’s monstrous, cheesy green plastic mailbox at 4 Mulberry Drive. It has his name on it and we have other proof he lives there. (King needs to know that the US flag on his garage should not be displayed at night time unless it is illuminated. Will someone tell him??)

FACT: The building next door is massively deteriorated leading to potential problems with getting the property insured at decent, non- high risk pool rate and curtailing any appreciation of the subject property because no one want to live next door to a dump. Other aspects of Tom King’s attempted con job of the Board
1.) Closing and renovation costs NOT FULLY DISCLOSED. These are substantial and will likely drive the $165,000 purchase price to at least $200,000 of MEMBER MONEY. They range from closing costy such as legal, title insurance, search fees, to renovation such as refrigerator, a new sign, code violations and electric repair, HVAC and more.
2.) Impact on NYSRPA’s occupancy costs and cash flow NOT FULLY DISCLOSED. NYSRPA had occupancy costs of $11,636 in 2015 and the space now used is much more space than King and Leder need.(i.e. they should downsize.) The “Tom King Ego enhancing building” has many more expenses and will drive occuppany cosys upward with property taxes alone being $9,544. Add these other expenses and members will soon see more of their moneywasted just to reduce Tom King’s commute. (insurance, gas for heat and how water, electric for AC and lights, cable and phone, security alarm (graffiti taggers will break in thinking there are guns on premise), grass and snow removal, cleaning, garbage)
DOES NOTHING TO ADVANCE CORE MISSION OF NYSRPA. NYSRPA members pay dues to PROTECT THEIR GUN RIGHTS in NYS, NOT BUY RUN DOWN PROPERTY!

It will takeyears if it happens at all and will require a sale or mortgage to unlock that value which will incur costs and require time and talent none of which NYSRPA has.
HAS VALUE ONLY TO TOM KING- NYSRPA MEMBERS WON’T EVER USE THIS BULDING. But I would not be surprised if King’s family or friends who live just up the street will use it for free for all manner of things from storage to meetings to parties.
MORE SPACE & MORE COST THAN IS NEEDED Pay for and upkeep a 3,500 SF space two people’s office and a board meeting twice a year? King should downsize to save funds, not seek more space.

IMPROPER MOTIVES Tom King’s motives for wanting to buy this dog of a building are to take care of himself by shortening his commute and creating a legacy in his own mind of somegrand achievement. In fact, any King achievement is a mirage. The real THK legacy will be one of stupidity, dishonesty and ineffective leadership. There’s also the less obvious motive of distracting the Board from considering how dismal the NYSRPA’s financial condition has become under his leadership by spinning this doghouse as agreat idea that he brought to the table. Note to NYSRPA Board: King did not make his 2017 budget which he proposed to you and he owns. He needs to be FIRED, not lauded. Nowhere would a CEO perform so poorly both by financial measures or in advancing the NYSRPA’s mission and still be outrageously paid and have a job! FIRE TOM KING or be prepared to answer questions about why you shirked your fiduciary obligations from the NYSAG’s office.
TIES FUTURE MANAGEMENT’S HANDS Someday the nightmarish leadership collective of 71 year old Tom King, his hand picked“Executive Board” of chimpanzee- like “yes men”, and the near equally old Brenda Leder(whose only demonstrative talent is covering up for King by telling mistruths to members) will come to an end. NYSRPA will need new leadership that could come from other regions of the state or of the capital district leaving this building as a TOM KING albatross that will not be easily unloaded.
REVERSES PRIOR REASON FOR MOVE THK cited being close the legislature as why he moved NYSRPA from a very affordable lease in Troy to its current location. Now, he seeks to reverse that position showing once again that the REAL REASON he wants to move is to be close to his house. How does that location benefit any NYSRPA member other than big, dumb Tom?
