I work in the IT department of a very large, renowned insurance company - headquartered in Germany. Unfortunately, what I tell my circle of friends and relatives about my projects, they dismiss as "conspiracy theory". Many people don't see or understand what will happen to us with this great digitalization revolution - especially the possible dangers/misuse. If one is that worried, disconnect the cellular antenna. Insurance companies already have the means to datalog and do so on a volunteer basis. I do not see it going well if a company mandates the tech they already have on the shelf. It would take a gov mandate or all the companies getting on board at the same time to make it happen.

There already is a thriving market, auto theft. A handheld device exists that allows one to unlock, start and drive via accessing the CANBUS. It takes less than 2 mins to drive away with little to no damage to the car.
Auto security is a joke. There is so much info out there already, the only holdup is while CAN is standardized the messages are not from manufacturer to manufacturer.
