So, I called a guy that I've bought a few long guns from before and asked if he could get me a couple pistols that I have my heart set on. I know what the online prices are. I know what the local prices are, and they're outrageous. So, he gives me the prices and they're within dollars of the cheapest online cost. So, I suggest that I'll just get them online, and simply do the transfer through him and give HIM the tax instead of NYS. For the one gun, that would be about $55 and the other $32, plus the transfer fees. I know i could've simply ordered them online and just paid the transfer fee, but he was wayyyy cheaper than the actual stores around and... I'm a moron aren't I? Lol

How do you figure you're giving him the tax? He has to collect the tax, do the paperwork, and give the money to the state.

It would seem to me if his prices were close to the online prices you could have bought them from him. He doesn't get the tax, it is simply passed along to NY state.

^ in the scenario where I buy the gun online and just use him as an ffl, but give him what I would have paid in tax if I bought the gun from him

most of the time, Sales tax is not collected by the online dealers, therefore it will not be part of the transaction at the NY dealer. You are supposed to claim unpaid sales tax on your state taxes every year, but nobody knows what you owe unless you declare you owe it.

OP do what you want just don't advertise it.

Had an order for a Walther PPQ 22 cancelled on me cuz it is apparently made of a zinc alloy with a lower melting point than is acceptable to be manufactured in N.Y.

Was designed to prevent poor people from buying guns and committing crimes with them. Confused? Yeah, me too
