Mosin Nagant 91/30 Barrel???

Can anyone tell me why the muzzle on this Mosin Nagant 91/30 has the odd shape or has some sort of adapter added at the muzzle?

Not to threadjack, but has anyone tried threading a mosin to use an amd65 muzzle brake?

Pointless? inner diameter should be right .312inch

nope , but i heard the clamp on ones have a tendency to fly off when you shoot ..

not sure enough room in front of the site to get enough threads ..
