Most American households have gun owners, poll shows: ‘Stunning number’

A majority of American households include at least one gun owner, according to a new survey that also shows a sharp increase in the number of firearm owners over the past decade.

The NBC News national poll found that 52% of Americans say they or someone in their household owns a firearm, the highest share since the outlet first surveyed the question in 1999.

“In the last ten years, we’ve grown [10 points] in gun ownership. That’s a very stunning number,” Public Opinion Strategies pollster Micah Roberts told the outlet.

The early days of covid sent people that had never considered having a gun into Shops for AR-15's and Riot Shotguns...Some have since sold those gun off, but I dare say most still have them tucked away for the day they have to depend on it.
I have a Friend that's moves a tremendous number of guns, ammunition, and accessories from WWII and older (of course "newer" Vietnam and Korea enter into the mix) and it's astounding the amount of Surplus Ammunition that's still out there, and the AMOUNT of surplus that Collectors from the day have/had on hand. You see, many collectors are getting old and disposing of their collections...the WWII guys are pretty well gone as are the Korean era, and even the Vietnam guys days are numbered and the stuff they stored away for a rainy day is being liquidated.

As I always say I suspect these numbers are higher. If some random person called me on the phone and said I’m doing a survey and would you be interested? I say yes and do them. The minute they started asking if I had guns in the home I would say no. No guns no ammo in my house to anyone I don’t know. You have no clue who is calling. Any other answer leads them to believe you have guns.

Yup, I'm going to tell a random stranger calling me out of nowhere if I have guns and ammo lying around the house. I think not. It's not as though I don't already have enough devices that can track my interests and browsing history (even without my consent).

I'm quite sure that national polls along with past and present registries don't tell the whole story, not even close. Asking citizens if they have guns, what a joke. A lot of people will say yes, fess up, but a lot will say no whether they have guns or not. Then there are the guns that folks have that gubber'mnt isn't aware of. Bet there are millions of "got-aways" lol. Older folks pass away and family members scarf up the old guys guns. Family members "gift" guns to relatives. Bet there's millions of strays out there.

Pretty sure that poll isn't worth the paper it's written on...

That said, as a Constitutional Right, I'm not sure why it's "stunning" at all. Every home should have one! So maybe it's stunning that 48% do NOT!

I mean it makes sense in some regards to ask people if they have guns or own them. I’m also sure there was more to the poll than hey do you own guns? It makes sense from a policy standpoint and the standpoint of how to lie to us about not wanting to take our guns away especially if the percentage is increasing. You can also deduce from that rising number people feel less safe and trust the government less.
Now I was involved in a poll recently and I erred on the side of I’m not interested in this because I know that the people interpreting my response would say to anything like warm that they could talk me into going with them and they can’t. It was about upgrading the grid to go all electric and I just don’t support it. Yes I'm sure it would spur some jobs and economic growth but I told them I doubted it would and a few other things I could see happening I told them I didn’t trust it. It was not a good conversation and I could tell I made the girl on the phone a tad uncomfortable at times.
