Moving to a free state.

Plan on heading out sometime in the next few years to better place. My question for now is; how to move handguns out of NY legally. Removing from permit etc., so that when "they" come for them, I have proof that they are not in NY. May have to do this before the move if the ridiculous insurance law comes about. I have relatives in PA., FL, NC. that I came store with. Still not decided on a final destination.

I moved them to GA and then called my county clerk. I still have my permit because I still own properties in NY. Its simple, but many counties will require you to mail your permit in. Depends where you live. It helps if you have a permit for the state you are moving to, that way there are no issues. GA recognizes all other States permits so it was super easy to do. Just check to make sure you will not have any issues if something happens. ALWAYS CYA

Unfortunately with the political climate the way it is in ny and the complete disregard for the second amendment everyone needs to be careful otherwise they may end up with a felony.

I understand why you are cautious but what felony? There is nothing in the Penal Law that says it's a felony to take pistols out of state. It just says that you have 10 days to notify them of change of address.

After you do that, they will either cancel your license or update it with a new address. That's entirely up to the county.

I gathered up my guns, long and short, put in vehicle, obeyed all traffic laws and took them with me. I even recertified though have not heard a peep otherwise.
Will they let me keep my NY permit? Don’t know, really don’t care. I’m never going back except for the occasional visit, like I’m doing right now. Left all my guns home, not messing with MD, DC and NJ no matter what FOPA says.

When you leave, don't turn your permit in. Fill out an amendment for change of address and be done with it.

If they want to revoke your permit, make them go through the hassle to revoke it. If they don't, you'll still have a permit if you decide to come back and visit.

if you maintain seasonal property in New Yorkistan, you can keep your permit, just recertify as necessary. or even rental property, you can keep your permit

Depending on the whims of the issuing official.

Two hours to an already lengthy trip puts me over the top. It’s not like visiting somewhere pleasant like FL.

I have my NY, PA, and FL permits, so, being in Charlotte, it is a nice run from WNY down I90 to Erie; I79 thru Pittsburgh; and on I77 through WV, VA, and into Charlotte. The hills and curves thru PA,WV, and VA can be a bit treacherous at night,- especially if you are unfamiliar with them, or are tired. But the views as you enter VA are spectacular, especially in the morning or afternoon. And you avoid those MD troopers who are just looking for ANY excuse to pull over NY drivers and search for firearms.

I lived in Wastechester, I95 is a straight shot back there. I wish I could use your route or just go thru PA. It’s way too far out of my way.
I made it back to NY last night, no hassle except the GWB.

I do that trip once a year. It's 2 hours extra but you save 2 hours of traffic and tolls . All I can tell you is to try it. Even my 80 year old parents drive that way now because it's scenic. Everyone that I tell to take that way ends up going that way all the time.

Definitely easier to go this route for people in central or western ny.

People in the East half of this state are really quarantined in all directions by not gun friendly locations
