Moving to another county

I have a question my lease is expiring where I live at in Westchester later this year. I'm planning to by a home in Westchester but price and taxes are too much. I'm looking at Putnam or orange and Westchester as last result. I just got my permit in Westchester Jan 2018. Do I have to start over again? Transfer my file or just change the address to new home putnum or orange county and keep my Westchester county permit. Thx peeps.

Call the office for pistols permit where you are moving they will tell you what you need to do. All of those county's have different policies and rules.

When I moved to Columbia County from NYC,I had to go to the county clerks office and sign a request to have files from NYPD sent to Columbia County clerk,the clerk then issued a Columbia County permit that had an expiration date that coincided with the expiration on my NYC permit,which was about a year from date I moved.In the interim I had to re-apply in Columbia county,took a couple months,3 or 4 mos and I was issued a permanent permit in this county.A friend of mine had a Delaware county permit.When he moved from Delaware county to Dutchess he just did a change of address in Delaware and still has his Delaware county permit with a Dutchess county address,about 15 yrs and running now.When you move,go to the county clerk and start the process.

If I were you I'd check with the Westchester county clerk and see if they will let you keep yours with an address out of county.Not sure how things will be with my friend I described in the last post as far as his "out of county address" now that the state police are involved.

Dutchess is full carry while Putnam, Westchester are restricted. I’m not sure about Orange

There is no such thing as "restricted"... Well worn subject about administrative additions to a carry license not holding any weight other than with the judge who puts it in ink on the license. Judges cannot legislate from the bench, cannot create law, there is nothing in the Penal Law of NYS that has "Sportsman" or "Restricted" carry license to possess a firearm. LMAO...

Just sayin!

At this point he doesnt know where he is going.As I pointed out earlier,a friend of mine moved from Delaware Co to Dutchess Co. in 1998.Delaware Co allowed him to file a change of address,which was now in Dutchess.They allowed him to keep his permit in Delaware Co while living in Dutchess for the past 20 yrs.He's added guns to his permit and never had a problem.It is likely Westchester wont allow such,but its worth a phone call to see.Would save a lot of trouble if they do.
