Mueller Lackey Andrew Weissmann Calls For Biden DOJ To Prosecute Trump
Joe Biden’s Department of Justice should prosecute Donald Trump, assuming he’s inaugurated in January, according to special counsel Robert Mueller’s top deputy investigator Andrew Weissmann.
In a Tuesday op-ed for the New York Times, Weissmann began by acknowledging that prosecuting Trump would certainly divide the country and preoccupy Biden’s administration from real issues, but such an action must be taken anyway.
“Any renewed investigative activity or a criminal prosecution would further divide the country and stoke claims that the Justice Department was merely exacting revenge,” Weissmann said. “An investigation and trial would be a spectacle that would surely consume the administration’s energy.”
“But as painful and hard as it may be for the country, I believe the next attorney general should investigate Mr. Trump and, if warranted, prosecute him for potential federal crimes
On Monday, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) demanded that Biden “send a message across the world” by investigating Trump
