I grew up in Kingston. Back in the day, everyone considered Poughkeepsie a little worse than Kingston, Newburgh a little worse than Poughkeepsie and points south worse than Newburgh. As the years went by, the new norm for Kingston was what Poughkeepsie had been like, the new norm for Poughkeepsie was what Newburgh had been like, etc.. It still holds true today. Gang violence has certainly played a role as the gangs moved up out of NYC.

It is sad to see what Kingston has become.

I work a lot in Kingston (my organization's main office is there). I wouldn't consider it an overall unsafe city, especially during daylight hours, but it's gone pretty close to full commie. Hate to say it but most of Ulster County has gone the same way. Just about every county-level elected official is a social justice warrior and Bernie Bro.
