That's what I'm saying though - I'm not feeling more recoil or seeing the gun jump more. Either it is and I don't notice it, or it isn't. I've shot a few, some with the heavier buffer (only an ounce heavier than stock, which is 4.5oz I think), and some without. This combined with the enhanced spring just seems to shoot a little bit softer than other AR's I've handled. Then again, since I don't do it every day, it'd be interesting for someone to compare mine to theirs

My rifle feels like it has no recoil and does not move.....(and it does not)..... but his gun is like night and day when tried side by side. It is a HUGE difference. HUGE!

Slight update, figured that I still can't decide on a scope to put on this, and I won't have the funds soon enough for my wants. Decided to temporarily mount the scope that came w/ my Savage. Had to get extra high rings for the objective to clear, and it barely did. I'll get it out and shooting soon enough.

Also decided that since the handguard is fde, I'm just gonna add colored pieces, or paint them myself. Got a fake 30 round (10 actual) fde Hexmag, because it looked better than the Magpul 10 rounder. Gonna grab some Duracoat or something to paint the grip and stock.

For now, it'll work, and that's all I need currently. Rings aren't 100% tight, but just got them snug to hold it. Will make sure it's level before finishing them.

The scope needs to be way more forward. You will not be able to get into good position, especially in prone. There is 3"-4" of eye-relief.

Thanks for the tip on that, I'll definitely experiment with the location. As it sits, I have it set for standing, since that's how I usually am with it and hardly lay down with it.

When the scope is further away from your eye than needed, it is still usable. When it is too close, you can't use it. Prone is where you eye is closest to the scope. I recommend placing the scope to be usable in prone, you will still be able to use it in other positions. Having someone to help moving the scope while you are in position saves a lot of time, make a mark with a pencil when all good.
PS. For correct offhand position the scope should still be much more forward then what you have, but that is another subject.

Just wrapped up building an SBR 223 upper that has a barrel extension (so it's not an SBR) that a suppressor fits inside. So, the OAL is like an AR with a 17.5" bbl.

No, this is NY compliant. I believe if I take my foregrip off, it becomes compliant. Either way, it's a pinned 10rd mag.

Ditch the scope rings,,,get a single mount that pushes the scope forward. You want the scope mounted so you can easily pull the charging handle. Other option if you dont want single mount,,,,these are cheap and are nice,,,I have a set but dont use them. I would ship them to you if your scope is 1" and you pay for shipping.

+1 on a single mount that pushes the scope forward. My mount puts it forward as much as possible without using hand-guard rails. For my kind of shooting it's a must. You can do the same thing with extended rail and rings, but one piece mount makes it much neater and you don't need to lap the rings. Using rails on handguard is not recommended.

So, the problem I had w/ my setup was that it was too low with ear muffs on. I could crank down, but it wasn't easy or comfortable at all. Well, I finally got a chance to fix that this weekend. Got some UTG risers, got the scope on and bore sighted. It sits perfectly when I draw up now (wearing ear pro). No more trying to crane my neck a stupid angle, no scrunching up to get on it. Just bring it up, and everything is where it needs to be.

Some say it looks high, I've seen a bunch of pictures of similar setups that look high as well.

What do you think?

It looks high to me but if it works for you that’s all that matters.

Looks to high to me too,,,,,,,,,,,obviously you are going to change the scope mounts to something that is comparable in height rather than leaving it look like that.

There are low profile ear muffs and also there are ear plugs. The height of the scope shouldn't be influenced by ear protection. I shoot low mounted scope with ear muffs on.

Having one of the rings mounted on handguard is a bad idea.

You’re not going to get really good results with the scope rings on the your handguard. You should have it on the upper receiver.

Right now I use the Walker's Razor muffs.

I guess I'll have to re-evaluate and look at those forward-swept rings you guys are mentioning. Are the Nikon P rings enough for the job, or is there a better set you all recommend?

The problem is your mounting a precision piece across a seam of two non precision pieces. Differential heating could effect the scope. Offsets of the rails could throw it off also.

Nikon m series scope mount is a single piece and has an offset specifically to deal with this issue so you are still mounted only to the upper.

I suggest buying the most forward extended mount you can afford. You can always move it back if needed.

Wasn't a "want" or anything, just kind of an "alright I'll use those" type of thing. I'll check those out and go from there.
