My broken .22

So, I have an issue with my Glenfield Model 60. I took it shooting earlier this year, and kept having issues with the bolt not closing all the way, and also with the shells not ejecting correctly, and getting stuck in the chamber.

So I brought it home, took it apart and gave it a good cleaning. Sprayed the internal parts with brake clean, and inside the chamber. It cleaned up nice, but now the problem I'm having is it seems like the trigger isn't connecting to the rest, and it feels like it not catching. And won't fire.

So, I looked up new parts for it, and according to the serial number it's the 'new' style. But looking at the parts in there, they all look like the 'old' style.

It would cost me over $100 for all new parts, but I could also just buy a new .22 for what it would cost me to fix mine.

I had a Similar problem with my marlin it was a simple recoil spring fix. Also really I mean REALLY clean out area where bolt interfaces with barrel. Couple right angles and nooks and crannies to trap crud. If you can, get in there with a toothbrush,solvent and blowgun.

Since you are having a new problem after assembling it, it sounds like you maybe did not assemble it correctly after taking it down for cleaning. Look up a video on detail stripping and assembling it on Youtube. They often have very helpful videos but watch a couple first then pick out the best as your go-by to disassemble again and then put back together correctly.

I rebuilt the action on my Glenfield 75C (it's a model 60 carbine). Here is a link below on how to reassemble the action. I didn't write it, but I used it to assemble the action from literally parts.

my bet is that you have a worn out or broken spring that needs replacing.

Ive noticed about where the bolt interfaces with the barrel gets plugged up...my dad at one time had given me some really dirty firing ammo, and after about 100 rounds or so I had to take a pick and clean out those 2 little divets....

My dad and I did replace the recoil spring back years ago when I was around 16....how many rounds are they usually good for?

Thanks....I'll have to look into that. I've had it apart and back together a few times, thinking that something wasn't together right, but with the same result. I did look it up to make sure I had everything in the correct way...

I didn't take the action apart like whats in the link you sent, I just took it out as a whole assy and put it back in...

If the parts in the trigger group were not aligned corrctly or if not cocked (if it needs to be so as in some guns) or uncocked (as it needs to be in others) one of thosr could be the reason for the trigger malfunction.

Its been a while since I had my 795 apart, but the action is basically the same. If the fired cases are stuck in the chamber after firing (not just stovepiping), then I would suspect that the recesses in the barrel where the extractors sit is either dirty or has some material stuck in it.

If the extractor groove is dirty the bolt doesn't go fully into battery and I think that the disconnector cannot contact the sear until the bolt is in battery (as a safety precaution). The extractor grooves are the two cut outs at 3 and 9 o'clock if you are looking at the chamber from the rear of the action. You may have to use a plastic toothpick or piece of heavier gauge copper wire to get them clean if they have something jammed in there.
