Have had a yugo sitting in the safe for 15 years. Still haven't bothered taking off the cosmoline. Not sure if I am ever going to clean it off to be honest.

I was actually going to wait until Sunday but I didn't want the Cosmo getting on Anything else.

Hah its a cleaning rope. It's yucky though I wouldnt use it

For SKSs, yula is the way to go. In any non AR really. Dirt cheap and works.

Once in cosmoline, always in cosmoline.

When I refinished my most stock, I stripped the finish and put the bare wood stock in front of a hair dryer and wiped cosmo off as it weeped out after hours I never got it all out I finial lyrics gave up.
I only shoot Tula out of my sks and it's never had a failure of any sort.

I just picked mine up. Prominus was not lying. It looks like it came right from the factory. I know what everything else is, except what looks like a cigar container. I am way too happy right now but only enough time to throw it in the safe.

Only thing i didnt mess with is the cigar container dont know what is is either but i figured that id figure it out when i took it out of the bag.

No I don't remeber mine ever drawing blood,it is like a chineese finger trap of sorts though.

I have the cosmoline stripped from everything except the barreled action. That will be tomorrow. I used mineral spirits on everything. Just curious what I can "wipe down" the wood with or should I just let it air dry to get rid of the smell.

Maybe some simple green wipes smell will just fade away after a few hundred dozen rounds

I ended up using a quick wipe of murphy's oil and it worked. Now just have to go sit by the fire pit and get some fresh air!

Here is mine after an in-depth cleaning and two coats of tung oil finish over the couple of slight dings or discoloration. Turned a slight orange hue but what I was after.

Do I wax it after the 24 hour cure, or just let it weep whatever cosmoline is left?
