My wife showed me and thought it was odd. My area is largely republican too.

Also, keep in mind, these are two different boklents. Or for 1st grade, and one for 2nd grade. Two diffrent covers, and different pictures inside, but the same general idea.

Still, not really all that big of a deal, I know what the DNC did with the duck thing, but most kids knew nothing of that. Hell, most adults knew nothing of it. Again, just glad that the kids are learning and talking about elections.

Seems benign, black women have the vote. It would have been nice if Mom was shown doing her research on Breitbart rather than mainstream media but....

What gets me about the education system is the subtle way they slowly but surely indoctrinate their students without ever doing any single thing we can call out as propaganda. For example, four days before the election my 8th-grader had to do a book report and essay about refugees based on an autobiography the class read. She had to find two other refugee experiences, in her notes was a story about a Muslim Croat fleeing the Serbs (never the Serbs fleeing the Croats). And the other was about Nicaraguans fleeing the 1980s Civil War. Now this is topical and deserves to be studied, but there is no counter argument against refugee immigration, only an emotional human interest point of view. Nobody wants to be anti-immigration after reading about starving children and gross injustice but it isn't like we ever hear the other side of the story, or look at the big picture.

I am sure most refugees are good people doing what is best for their families but that doesn't mean that importing thousands of refugees is a good idea. They never get to discussing the policies of what caused the refugee crisis in the first place, much less our policies about letting them in. Instead they focus on a sympathetic anecdote that tugs at the heartstrings. They also will concentrate on Muslims while overlooking 50 years of European refugees escaping Communism, not to mention Jews before that.

And most parents will be helping their kids with this homework a few days before the election, what perfect timing... picturing little kids being blown up and families being turned away because of prejudice against Muslims.

Same sort of thing goes on with race and gender, they will read, "To Kill a Mockingbird" which is a pretty good story... but add a dozen more stories about discrimination and the kids can't help but conclude we're all deplorable racists and sexists.

So our kids are being educated just enough to be manipulated and it's up to us to teach them how to think for themselves.

Surprisingly Trump won the 8th grade mock election in our college town. Kids are smarter than the teachers.

The duck thing got me the most, I think its a subliminal message to people. kids bring this home to their parents, and parents are the voters.

oddly enough, they had artwork on the wall in the library where we voted, and the art was by a child. The artists name was Hillary XXXXXXX, I saw that as a subliminal message to support Hitlery myself... but I knew that was a stretch, but it still gave me that thought.

my school district is ranked very high... but there were some liberal teachers that had our older kids write hate mail to Bush about how he was a bad president for starting the war in Iraq, and when they told us that the teachers had them write that we called the school.

I don't trust the liberal learning institutions anymore.

I don't think they are smart enough to do something putting the duck into the frame to mock Donald Trump, that's a stretch and you give them too much credit.

The issue is that these kinds of narratives happen organically because people perpetuate what they've been taught and they want to signal their virtue and correctness. Some woman who always got straight As and always did what's expected and wants to be a good person created this worksheet entirely out of her head with good intentions because that's her belief system, she is fully indoctrinated and can't even begin to see why people like us are skeptical.

Her head might explode if she knew (some of us) we think it should show a nuclear family and that it has an intentional bias towards Clinton. She just couldn't grasp that kind of thinking.

I try to too look too much into it. I see the duck thing as being funny for a child, and making it amusing. However, I did take this opportunity to show my son how the voting goes, the ballot, how to read it, the parties on it, what straight line party voting means, and how to fanagle that ballot machine. My first grader daughter was chosen to tally the votes in her class. She bragged to me the next day that Donald Trump won 30-1 and that the kid who voted for Hillary is an idiot. My pre-k daughter screams "she's a liar!" any time she hears the witch's name. I love it!

Their public school is VERY patriotic, which makes me proud since it is named after a POW who died in Korea. They have a ceremony for vets there every year which my kids brag about me attending. It is also in my precinct so I am there often in uniform and that too is viewed positively by the staff.

We're unique in the city being a bright as hell red swatch across Staten Island which overwhelmingly went for Trump. It's what makes living here tolerable and even exceptional in some ways. Sometimes it is hard to justify my anger when I live and work in a part of the city which proudly and overwhelmingly votes red, and supports cops and the military.

Did you ever entertain the thought that this message might be empathy towards the fact
that 72% of these children live in a single home? Aside from the fact that it may offend some to depict our PRESIDENT ELECT as anything less than human to any age group, ethnic group etc. Let me remind you this is based on questionable, at best, a bias pamphlet. I choose to set my feelings aside of silly benign insults I might have detected, and focused on a real issue that jumped out at me.
