Just read the daily news article, seems these guys were all from a pretty wealthy upbringing and thought they could get away with anything. They are lucky that they got away with their lives.

If I remember correctly, when I first got my permit, it said ," Colt Auto." Now after a few amendments it doesn't say that anymore.

Still getting the whole story but apparently these guys run some sort of Colorado to NY marijuana and pills pipeline. They've all been arrested before (a third guy was collared last night in relation), but this new information was completely off anyone's radar. These idiots had it all until they decided to do some 0100 target practice in the woods across the street. Apparently the perp who was shot fired one round before being dropped. The other firearms, including the AR, were empty.

I'm sitting on the desk right now and just signed off on invoices for 2 more guns that were found, including another AR. Both are hack jobs someone who must not know much barely threw together. They're made from all real parts but I wonder if they are even operable.

Not sure that is entirely accurate. In common use I believe the term most often refers to ability to self-load AND fire continuously.

For example, Oxford defines as adj:

(of a firearm) self-loading and able to fire continuously until the ammunition is exhausted or the pressure on the trigger is released:

and as noun:

A gun that continues firing until the ammunition is exhausted or the pressure on the trigger is released:

automatic - definition of automatic in English | Oxford Dictionaries

ATF generally refers to the term "automatic" only in context of "Semi-automatic" or "Fully automatic", which has to do with ability to fire, not load. The courts also define term in context of firing.

Not looking to start an argument or anything over this, my only point is we all have come to expect the media to refer to semi-automatic guns as "automatics" but I was surprised to hear this coming from the NYPD top-brass. I do understand that some people use the terms semi-auto and auto interchangeably, but I also believe "automatic" is sometimes used intentionally to promote an agenda.
