Great scope. About to get a second as Leupold is sending me a free one to replace my damaged VX2 3-9.Great company !
Feeling good as I just figured how ignore works. 4 trolls I don't have to put up with anymore !
My new one is going on the NIB NH M-70 Super Grade I just found.

Thank you. Nice rifle. You'll have to forgive me, I was writing up another post on my thread, a lengthy one, and I clicked the cancel button by accident. Back breaker and affected my mood. Anyways, I do very careful research, and know what I need, and don't, and always want value and flexibility. A buddy has invited me to hunt his land, which will allow for 400 plus yard shots on deer. A 4.5-14x50 1" tube with CDS and WindPlex would be a better choice, for shots up to 600 yards, IF I owned the land and this would be a regularly used shooting house. Since I don't, I wanted a scope suitable for both woods and fields, thus the 3.5-10x40, 1" tube, with CDS and WindPlex. $450 street price is enough, for now.
Edit: Make that the VX-3i 4.5-14x50, 30mm tube, with Side Focus and CDS with WindPlex reticle. $700 street price for that scope has value written all over it.

Yes. After zeroing at 100 yards, and receiving my dial, I will first test it at 100 yards. I will make sure when I set the dial it has the proper MOA up adjustment for various ranges. For example, 3" high @ 100 yards when the dial set for 250. Then, I will take it for a test drive on some plates.

To be honest, that's the least of my worries. That math's been done. If I choose a Hornady .30 cal 165 gr BTSP for my 30-06, BC of .435, velocity of 2800 fps, and I want to shoot @ 425 yards, I need to come up 8 MOA (from 0, which is 100 yards). I can do that with the MOA dial that's on it, or with a new dial that instead of 8 MOA, is marked 4.25 instead. Simpler and faster than a cheat sheet is all. Convenience.
Edit: those figures are corrected for the average elevation in my zip code (389' above sea level), avg temp of 47 degrees (Avg of Jan avg low and July avg high) which if you think about it is an avg Nov daytime high on a decent day. I've done my homework.

I haven't been to the range yet to do the barrel break-in and sight it in, but love how clear the optic is, even with the magnification cranked up. Not to mention a lot of the guys at the rifle range I belong to swear by Leupold scopes.

Same here. Have played with it but not mounted it yet. Clarity edge to edge is phenomenal, even at 10x. I only have 16 rounds through my rifle, strictly following Remington's barrel break-in procedure. 4 more rounds, and I'm all set.

Btw. Leupold has always been my fave scope. This now makes 6 I own. Not bragging, just an example of brand loyalty.

I've decided to hold off on a CDS dial for now. I've come to realize that with the externally adjustable MOA elevation dial on it, it's almost infinitely more flexible to use. A CDS dial is good for ONE specific load under ONE set of average atmospheric conditions. With the MOA dial, I can rezero the rifle with any load I choose @ 100 yards anytime, reset the dial to zero for that load, and use it for that load under just about ANY environmental conditions.

Don't over study the CDS deal. Unless you are shooting varmints almost any modern cartridge has a point blank range on big game of 300 yards. I hunt in WY and have only shot one big game animal at more than 300 yards. JOC's "rule of 3" still works fine. (3" high @100 with a center mass hold kills to 300).
While folks are diddling with wind meters, range finders, cell phones and knobs that Elk walked into the timber.
IMHO far too much emphasis on sniper skills rather than hunter skills.

I understand your point. Why this scope? Simple. I'll use it mostly for MY hunting. Hunt the woods? Leave the dial at zero. Go to my buddy's? Set the dial at 3 MOA high for instant 0-300 yard shots, and as a starting point to adjust up as necessary for 300-500 yards farther on down the power lines. Leaving the MOA dial on, instead of ordering CDS dial, I can change my mind about ammo and use it. Down the road, when I've settled on a load I'm happy with, then I'll order the dial. Til then, MOA it is.
