Now that the title has your attention, I wonder if somebody can answer this.
Years back I built an ar pistol and had it put on my permit in Erie county as a 5.56/22lr. This was before the state police started recording records, now on top of it, the new atf guidelines are set to take place. Mine will be considered an sbr straight off the bat because of its 26.5 oal and 10.5 inch barrel. Yes I could simply take the brace off to remedy that, or install a 16" barrel.
Normally I wouldn't pay much attention to these bs rules, but I have decided to just take it off the radar completely and build a dedicated 22lr rifle. For those that don't know, a pistol can legally be converted to a rifle.
My question is how is the best way to go about taking it off my permit?
Turn in 10" barrel to SP, or sheriff? Just show them the completed new legal rifle? Can an FFL do this? I basically need a receipt stating it has been destroyed, so my serial number is off the books.
